Element-a-lasting Ward Wisp

Elementa-l-asting Ward [Wisp]

[Wisp] with Elemental Ward! I don't think I've seen a build utilizing Elemental Ward on her, maybe I've missed it.

Tested in:

  • Arbitrations (bonus 300% Strength and no bonus 300% Strength)
  • Hour of Mot Void Axi Survival
  • Steel Path
  • Sorties
  • Kuva Survival (Both regular and Requiem Relic)
  • and everything in between. Includes soloing too, just to be clear. I don't go into pubs much.

If you need help picking the right colors, this is 6 years old but still applies, just Emissive now instead of Energy. Your favorite search engine will help you find other resources for this as well.

TL;DR for those who can't be bothered to read further, I understand
If this isn't enough, try atleast skimming through my long, boring explanation. This is my attempt at a condensed version

  • Elemental Ward: I don't use Sol Gate, drains more energy than I find useful. Cold or Toxin, Toxin for lower level missions (or quicker ones like capture and exterminate, higher level if you got a good squad) Cold otherwise for survivability and general use.

  • [Everlasting Ward]: 4th 5th Reservoir. Cast when enemies come back to refresh the other reservoirs such as in a defense, otherwise you might have to chase them down such as in a survival.

  • [Growing Power]: This helps pass the 300% Strength barrier if you don't use [Power Drift], and instead Fused Reservoirs. Also, more armor, or more Toxic buffs. A little more help from your Reservoirs too if you time em right. Aura Forma is there, so Corrosive Projection, Brief Respite (with or without Decaying), Energy Siphon, or whatever your heart desires.

  • [Umbral Intensify] and Forma: Contentious I know, but it helps with Strength. Strength good, buff Wisp buff Wisp. No Umbral Forma? Knock down Transient Fortitude, Adaption, and Blind Rage by 2 each, same build.

  • Arcane Energize and [Guardian]: Helps make up for lower Efficiency and extra survivability. I actually only have Rank 0 of both (read the section) and you can use whatever you desire.

  • Weapons and Companion: You can use whatever you want, I listed my weapons in case you were curious. I also like having them here in case anything happens. There's a bit of "synergy" with the way I use them but also not really, you'll get the same results and have better "synergy" with other weapons. Toxin helps a lot with reload and holstering complimenting Haste buffs, Cold and it's armor helps also with the longer reload times cause you don't have to worry about dying.

  • Operator Focus: Zenurik. Energy replenishing AOE helps a lot, don't have to use as many pizzas and helps with everything else. Energy Pulse and Energizing Dash. More explanation on other nodes below.

Long form version

Why Elemental Ward? Well I wanted something to replace Sol Gate, I don't use it at all and it only serves to drain energy when I could be using Breach Surge and my weapons. I don't use Fire or Electricity Wards because you got those covered by her Reservoirs, Health and Shock respectively- so this build is meant for primarily Cold and Toxin. You get a little less duration than your Reservoirs (allies too, but that depends when they're nearby and when it's casted) so you'll need to constantly be refreshing it, but i think it's a lot more useful than Sol Gate.

  • Toxin: I use it in lower level missions, though I'd think if you have a squad with other Frames that share buffs, this is totally viable in higher level missions. The holster and reload speed bonuses compliment her Haste mote a lot (Movement, Attack, and Fire Rate) and lets you dump mags into enemies quicker. Not only that, it has the highest status chance of all the elements, so if you use a Condition Overload melee build, you're gonna proc Toxin on enemies way easier, more damage to be had!

  • Cold: I feel like this is the bread and butter of this build, and serves to make her a jank tank. I love tanks, not just in Warframe- I have a Eternal Warcry Melee Saryn that I made a jank tank too- so she's not a tank, but this helps, a lot. While there exists the shield gating mechanic with [Brief Respite] and Decaying Dragon key, and it works well, I like face tanking more. I wouldn't worry so much about the damage [Reflection] doing anything that isn't helping you survive, but although the cold proc isn't the toxin one, it does proc and helps with meleeing and getting out of a group.

  • [Everlasting Ward]: I don't play [Chroma], I don't really like his kit, so I can't say if this is actually a popular augment or not. For my [Wisp] though, I'd say just like Cold this is part of that bread and butter. If the Cold was the bread, this is the butter. You essentially have a 5th reservoir at your disposal. Although this has little range, if you pass by your squad or they pass by you, they get a nice little buff that last almost as long as your Reservoirs. In defense, people tend to run back to the reservoirs after a wave clear so it's a great time to cast. Other than that, always have it refreshed.

  • [Growing Power]: At the top I mentioned [Power Drift], [Speed Drift], and now Fused Reservoirs. I originally used [Speed Drift] when this was first written up because through playing her I really liked [Natural Talent], but now I've finalized my [Wisp] with this build. [Power Drift] is a good exilus too, that'll take you over that 300% strength barrier, so you can use [Corrosive Projection], [Brief Respite], [Energy Siphon], whatever your heart desires. I have an Aura Forma up there for that reason, but if you don't have one to spend (or don't want to) go ahead. Because I used Speed Drift- I opted for Growing Power to pass that barrier, and to help with both Cold and Toxin Elemental Ward strength.

  • Umbral Intensify and Forma: I know this is a contentious topic with builds- but if you read above, I wanted to get as much Strength as possible without sacrificing (haha) too much. I love [Wisp], I play her all the time and because of this build I have been and am gonna be maining her, so I thought an Umbral forma is useful and not at all wasteful. If you don't want to use an Umbral forma, or have one, you can knock down [Blind Rage], Transient Fortitude, and Adapation all by 2 levels and still have the same build. That 44% strength is too good to pass up.

  • Arcane Energize and Arcane [Guardian]: Arcanes are pretty much up to you, but I suggest these 2 since there's no any energy efficiency and [Guardian] is good when you need to get your Elemental Ward back up. Energize is there for the same reason, along with [Primed Flow]. High energy pool, lots of regenerating energy because you're spamming your 3 and having to refresh Elemental Ward, makes for a good time.
I would also like to add a note here, I and this build does just fine without them. I actually only have Rank 0 Energize and [Guardian], my [Umbral Intensify] isn't maxed and [Primed Flow], Adaption, [Transient Fortitude], and Blind Rage are all missing their last 2 levels. After 2.2k hours and MR 27, I still don't have them maxed. Crazy, I know.

  • Operator Focus: This is tacked on after I wrote this up- sorry if it feels out of place. I use Zenurik, I don't think any other school is really used apart from Naramon, but in this build the energy regeneration helps more since melee is more used for cleanup, so Energy Pulse and Energizing Dash are the most important here. I do have Void Siphon, Void [Flow], [Lightning Dash], Void Static, and Void [Singularity] as well, although these 5 aren't as important. Void Siphon and [Flow] aren't exactly needed here, unless you're using the other 3. If you're just dashing for energy regeneration, then Pulse and Dash are what matters and what you'd want before anything else. Otherwise, [Lightning Dash], Void Static, and [Singularity] are mighty useful. [Lightning Dash] creates a ball that zaps enemies in the direction that you dash, and it recreates every time you dash, though the lightning that was created stays for it's duration. I use this when I can't cast Breach Surge to help stun, and especially when i go to pick up allies, since I stay crouched in Operator to revive them. Void Static and [Singularity] are a good pair that work well together, though if you're having energy problems with Operator, [Singularity] is enough. Similar in use case to [Lightning Dash], I use this not so much to stun (they do get stunned since I dash over) but to group enemies up. If you can't cast Breach Surge or Elemental Ward just ran out and you can't cast that either, this is a good savior since you can pull enemies away from [Wisp] or allies and begin clean up, such as with Breach Surge. If you use Void Blast a lot (the melee in operator) Temporal Blast and Voltaic Blast also helps, but I haven't ranked these up since I rarely ever find myself using Blast, apart from the occasional fat finger. In a nutshell, way too useful to not take.

Finally, the weapons and companion. I think with this build you can use anything you want, especially if you're using Toxin, and say have a [Strun Wraith] or something with longer reload times. Cold and it's survivability aspect also help in that too. But these are the weapons I use with her, and the explanations. They're not anything you'd see like with (real) synergies from someone like Relentless Zen, but I've found ways to make them work cause I like em so much.

  • My Javlok, the Dead Horse Stick: The names have nothing to do with their capabilities, I promise- they're just funny to me. I do actually have a Riven for this weapon, I don't think I can necessarily recommend any spearguns without a riven, though they each have their capabilities and uses. Getting complimented by the Toxin, but works well with Cold too- I like to jump into groups (or teleport to her Reservoirs) and Breach Surge, then I jump back out and throw this. This playstyle is very much helped by her useful passive, which makes her invisible when mid-air. I actually jump around a lot. The primary fire works well too, but it might take a few shots and you want to be aiming for the head.

  • My Sporelacer, Gourd Crusher: If you're questioning the name choices again, I use an orange energy colors so it looks like a pumpkin being smashed. It's funny, stop judging. I find [Sporelacer] all too useful, with it's AOE especially with [Fulmination], it helps Breach Surge a lot too. Because you auto switch to your secondary after throwing a speargun, this helps clean up. I also use this with Nullifiers around, though don't try and hit the bubble directly, aim near the ground or a wall. It's not an instant pop, but the mag has enough to spam it and Pax Charge so you'll never run out of ammo anyway.

  • My Dokrahm Zaw, Corrosion of Conformity: Alright, it's a sludge metal band. Hence the username also. They're pretty great. I don't think this necessarily has any "synergies" here apart from the Toxin proc, Cold slowing enemies, and all the elements being spread- it's just a [Condition Overload] build with [Healing Return] to help with survivability and clean up. It helps a lot with those tanky af Heavy Gunners, not only because of spreading elementals above but also the companion build next.

  • My Diriga, it doesn't actually have a custom name: I again want to give credit to Alhazred here because I stole his build. He also mentions the use of [Synth Deconstruct] in his build, I don't actually have [Coolant Leak]. It zaps the fuck out of enemies (especially those Heavy Gunners) and has great survivability. I don't think [Coolant Leak] is necessary with this build, atleast if you're running Cold, it does the same thing. Though if you're using Toxin, certainly it's useful. If you prefer using a Vulpaphyla for Arbitrations, that works too- I bring mine sometimes. Panzer or Sly is good, though I prefer Panzer. I have a build for that too that goes with my briefly mentioned Eternal Warcry Melee Saryn Top voted builds for either works well.

  • The Verglas, I stole this build too but I didn't make my own copy for linking: Alhazred mentions his Vulkok build, and certainly check it out. I instead opted for the linked [Verglas] build, I think it compliments this a lot, something Alhazred also mentions ([Verglas] is [Artax] and [Cryotra] 2.0, don't question it). The 3 Vigilante Mods help a lot though I don't have them on here or the [Javlok], so along with the stun you also get some Viral spreading.

And... that's it. This is incredibly long, I know. I think this was actually longer than my V1 concept I put up and deleted before writing this. Though I think this is a lot cleaner and written out better, even if the build itself hasn't changed except for you, Fused Reservoirs. If you read through all this, I hope I explained myself well. I'm not too good at condensing information, and I want to be thorough. Oh, actually, I forgot- her 2, Will-O-[Wisp]. I don't use it a lot, but it does work like a moving [Loki]'s Decoy so if you ever to happen to need it you can.
