What Spores? Eternal Warcry. Melee Saryn Build

What Spores? Eternal Warcry.

Who the fuck ever thought to put Warcry on [Saryn]? I did. I don't like Spores. But I do like melee, even before Melee 3.0 was introduced. I mentioned in my Elementa-l-asting Ward Wisp. I like tanking, although when it comes to Warframe you don't really have tanks, atleast not in the traditional MMO/RPG sense. So we have a jank tank. While my [Wisp] is built for survivability, support, and AOE damage, this built for survivability, and dishing out lots of melee damage.

Tested in:

  • Arbitrations (bonus 300% Strength and no bonus 300% Strength)
  • Hour of Mot Void Axi Survival
  • Steel Path
  • Sorties
  • Kuva Survival (Both regular and Requiem Relic)
  • and everything in between. Includes soloing too, just to be clear. I don't go into pubs much.

TL;DR for those who can't be bothered to read further, I understand
If this isn't enough, try atleast skimming through my long, boring explanation. This is my attempt at a condensed version.

  • Polarity slots: Unfortunately it doesn't show what they actually are, and actually my Solo Spores build came long before this one. Regenerative Molt and Eternal War both use Naramon slots, the dash -, and thats why they're red.

  • Warcry: I don't like Spores, and I like melee. I'm not really a big fan of DPS in MMO/RPGs and I like tanking, but Warframe is different.

  • [Eternal War]: Compliment to Warcry, I don't think you can really have Warcry without Eternal War. 38 seconds of Warcry at cap, keep it going forever as spawns permit.

  • [Contagion Cloud]: Toxic Lash should always be on, this brings back a bit of CC in the form that's close to Radiation Hazard sorties. Damage spread, just not as broken as spores.

  • [Regenerative Molt]: I don't think you need to spam this, but it's good to put down Molt and get a bit of health back when you need it. Also, speed, 3 seconds of invulnerability, and status cleanse! Weeeee!

  • Miasma: I don't really use it, but good for a quick clear if enemies are low or need a quick stun. Not useful to spam.

  • Steel Charge and Primed Sure Footed: Combining them here- [Steel Charge] gives more melee damage for a melee build, Primed Sure Footed helps getting you back up. Bit more damage and survivability, can't go wrong.

  • Umbral Vitality, Fiber, and Forma: Contentious- but Health and Armor, jank tank. Forma is needed for the other mods, I wouldn't really use this without it. I would put a second one for Fiber too to max the mods, but haven't decided if I will or not. You're probably are reading this to tell me to delete the build in the comments anyway, I get it.

  • Arcane [Fury] and Arcane [Guardian]: I think these are pretty obvious too, more melee damage that procs with melee too, and armor. Like my Wisp build I actually only have rank 0 of both, so feel free to replace with what you want.

  • Operator Focus: Naramon. Power Spike. No more losing your full combo counter because it went from 12x to 11x.

  • Weapons and Companion: [Condition Overload] with [Healing Return] anything is what's important here, but I mention [Guardian Derision] specifically for taunting. I reccomend reading below for explanation and melee alternatives. Primary and Secondary, anything that can spread elemental procs. [Panzer Vulpaphyla] with [Martyr Symbiosis], it's gonna be tanky as hell and will heal you too. Plus it's immortal, can't die like Sentinels or other companions.

Long form version

Why Warcry? I think that's pretty obvious from my intro. Melee jank tanking! Although also traditionally tanks don't really do DPS- Warframe is a bit different as we know. I like Valkyr, I do, and I'm basically turning Saryn into Valkyr- but I like [Saryn] more. Something about the poison, corrosive, sludgey nature of her gets me going. But I don't like spores, when that's like- her main thing. Feel free to read up in my compatible Solo Spores build. Warcry provides melee attack speed buff, armor buff, and slows down enemies. So we're gonna abuse it with Condition Overload and Eternal War. Just to note- this isn't your standard Saryn build. No Spores- more single target DPS but works well enough with groups if they're close enough. That also means no CC, unless you count the slow and Contagion Cloud, but that's really only near Saryn herself.

  • [Eternal War]: This makes Warcry last. 2s for each kill, and you're gonna be killing fast. Cap of 38 seconds, don't really worry about it unless spawns are split or you're in a defense and the wave just ended. You can recast it anyway, but it'll work.

  • [Contagion Cloud]: If you know the augment, I think this is obvious like [Eternal War]. It does actually help quite a bit, but but it's not going to be littering the maps. It's like Spores without the Spores. Replacing a broken thing with yet another broken thing? Yeah. But it's not as broken, so I think it's okay. Creates 5 meter toxic clouds that on an enemy that you killed, dealing 300 damage per second for 12 seconds. 3,600 damage doesn't sound like much, but think of it like Radiation Hazard in Sorties. I mean it's not Radiation, but it's damage you're dealing outside of your range for free.

  • [Regenerative Molt]: Molt is a very good taunt like mechanic, although it's not on you specifically. It works like [Loki]'s Decoy, drawing fire. [Regenerative Molt] makes it so you can also heal from using it. You won't need it a lot for health, but it it's there when you do. I use it more for drawing enemies attention as intended. Molt grants a quick speed buff with an 3 second invulnerability period and status cleanse, so you can use it to get out of tight situations, plus, it explodes- though I wouldn't rely on the explosion too much.

  • Toxic Lash and Miasma: Toxic Lash- always have on. You'll have to refresh it a lot unlike Warcry, but it giving even more damage for melee, plus 100% status proc with Condition Overload- disgusting. Plus, [Contagion Cloud]. Toxic Lash is important. You got about 60 seconds on it though, so it's not spammy. Miasma, I don't really use. If there's a lot of enemies that aren't grouped up but have their health lowered by [Contagion Cloud] and you can't be bothered to melee all of them, it's a good clean up. It also helps to give a quick stun, but you're not going to be spamming it. I hope.

  • [Steel Charge]: It's a melee build. Why do I need Corrosive Projection or anything else? They're already dead. I don't think there's much to say here.

  • [Primed Sure Footed]: I actually don't have Primed yet. I only passed my 500 day mark recently, so day 600 is when I get it. None the less, [Sure Footed] works just the same. This with [Constitution] helps, though if you wanna replace [Constitution] since it's a bit redundant, (Primed) Continuity or Augur Message works here as well. Need a bit of duration for her other abilities, so up to you.

  • Umbral Mods and Forma: I mentioned in my Wisp build too- contentious. I know. But like [Wisp], I main [Saryn] and the Umbral mods help a lot here, so an Umbral Forma was necessary to get the most out of my other mods. I would prefer a maxed Adaption and Blind Rage, but I don't know if I'm willing to spend that second Umbral Forma yet.

  • Arcane [Fury] and Arcane [Guardian]: I think these are obvious choices, even when using a melee weapon Fury can proc, so it just gives even more damage. Guardian for even more survivability and tanking, armor sure is nice.

  • Operator Focus: Naramon. Much like [Steel Charge], I think it's pretty obvious, at least if you know what you're doing (and you should probably only be using this build if you do.) Power Spike- most important. Affinity Spike is good too actually, but I don't really use this build to level. Melee Combo Counter decaying rather than straight up disappearing because you went from 12x to 11x sucks. If you don't mind going into Operator every now and gain, Void Stalker is very useful as well, although it doesn't last long, but if you have some tankier enemies (looking at you, Heavy Gunners) and they just won't die, try that. I use Mind Step and Sprint too, but similarly to Molt it's more of a dash to get away tool and get your health back. Do wanna note though, any melee centric builds, not just this one, Affinity Spike is too good. I wouldn't use Zenurik here cause energy isn't a problem, but it's just as useful as it in any other non melee centric builds.

Finally, Weapons and companion. Melee is the most important here, but I also have some more utility focused weapons included too. I'll explain with each of my choices.

  • Sigma & Octantis, the Sword n Board: If you saw my [Wisp] build, you know I like funny names. I haven't got around to naming this one yet. Starting out with melee of course, I can't overstate how much of a melee build this is, can I? Guardian Derision is included because taunting, and my theme of tanking- but Weeping Wounds is fine too if you'd rather just use Molt.

  • Alternative Melee: My Corrosion of Conformity Dokrahm Zaw Build actually works really well here too. I also have a Kuva Shildeg, there's no difference in builds apart from the Sigma & Octantis having Guardian Derision- they're all Condition Overload builds with Healing Return. Stats are different of course, zaw has Exodia Force too- but I like switching it up. Sometimes I want a big fuck off sword or hammer.

  • Sobek, the Corrosive Spreading Shotgun: Okay so it actually uses Viral despite being an impact weapon- and it's suppose to have Heat too but the Riven isn't final yet, I explain there. What's important about it is Acid Shells and the Shattering Justice augments. Some may say Acid Shells isn't a great mod, and to be honest, they're right- but I like it and this is more about melee than it is killing with a shotgun. Plus, I like shotguns and corrosive. Shattering Justice is important here too, alternatively you could use Hek with Scattered Justice- for those who don't know, when Justice procs (it's a meter that fills up) enemies within 25 meters of the player receive a blast proc for 1000 damage- which, blast sucks and is negligible, but it helps here because it knocks them on their asses and they also get reduced accuracy by 30% for 6 seconds. Oh- you also get 25% of your Max Health back and base armor is increased by 15% for 30 seconds.

  • Alternative Primaries: Anything works, really. I think the Sobek is really useful, but if you have something better- go for it. I like shotguns personally, but I think what you'd want to focus on most is spreading elementals, which shotguns are useful for. Ignis Wraith? That works, pretty popular too.

  • If you happen to care for synergizing utility: I have another Javlok build that fits in with my [Wisp]'s Dead Horse Stick Javlok build. It utilizes [Amalgam Javlok Magazine Warp] for the bonus combo counter for shield blocking (goes with the [Guardian Derision] on [Sigma & Octantis] nicely too) but I find this even jankier than this whole build. The 6 second duration isn't long enough and where you throw it to spread the Radiation, you're probably gonna be heading that way anyway and pick it up, nullifying the use of the bonus to combo counter. Not to mention weapon switching and the mess that is finger tangling- None the less, it exists.

  • Kuva Nukor: I'm gonna be stealing THeMooN85's [Kuva Nukor] build for the purposes of this guide, I copied it for my own in game anyway so I don't have anything to really differentiate here. Similar to alternative primaries, anything that can spread procs really easily. It's all about getting those elementals going for Condition Overload and Healing Return.

  • Panzer Vulpaphyla, Su Nombre Es Jeff: Okay so yeah, I have a funny name for this one. Hard to explain the context, but his name Jeff. This is actually SatireVer's build so check him out, only I have [Primed Pack Leader] here (it's a melee build) and Martyr Symbiosis. If y'all haven't heard of Vasca Kavats, seems like a lot of people missed them- [Martyr Symbiosis] is basically the Vasca in mod form for your immortal friends. You fall below enough health, it's gonna heal you because it ate up a bunch of corpses around you. It does also spread Viral spores... but these are okay, they aren't broken like Saryns. Perfect for Arbitrations.

And that's it! I think this is shorter than my Wisp build, but I guess there was less explaining to do here. It's just Valkyr-[Saryn]. With that, I hope if you read through all this I explained myself well. It's a niche build that takes advantage of completely overpowered mechanics, but it brings the fun (personally) back to [Saryn] while being in the face of enemies.
