Ultimate Maim Build - Read Guide

Disclaimer: Certain described elements were altered and further explained throughout the guide. Please read thoroughly to best understand the current build.

Efficiency:

  • Rank 5 Streamline (30%)
  • Rank 2 Fleeting Expertise (30%, further explained in 'Duration')

Duration:

Duration and Efficiency go hand-in-hand when reducing energy drain/cost, thus maximizing Maim - the cornerstone of this build. One could cap out Efficiency with only a 2% (down from 5%) increase to Duration by using [Constitution] instead of [Primed Continuity], decreasing [Streamline] from Rank 5 to 4, and increasing [Fleeting Expertise] from Rank 2 to 4. In the end though, all this change would do is let you stand up faster, effectively decrease duration, and reduce the duration of Rest & Rage (ability 2) by 10.4 seconds - a huge downside that will be explained further on.

Also, ability drain cannot go lower that .88 energy/sec, so it has to be one of the two ways I've explained or you simply won't have the lowest possible energy drain, or you'll simply be wasting the efficiency/duration, depending on your mod choices/ranks. READ '[Energy Transfer] AUGMENT' SECTION BELOW FOR FURTHER EXPLANATION

Strength:

You don't need Ability Strength for a [Maim] build because the status proc dealt by [Maim] won't be able to accumulate enough damage to effectively 'nuke' everything. For reference, a quote from the wiki itself:

"As damage accumulation/[Health Conversion] rate is not affected by Ability Strength, Mend & [Maim] wouldn't require high Ability Strength to be effective, especially if built for effect upon deactivation."

This essentially means that having higher Ability Strength doesn't help you 'nuke' enemies with [Maim], all it would do is help your teammates have a higher advantage from your Provoke (ability 3). That said, there is no need for [Intensify] in this build unless you want to pair Umbral mods for the set bonus increase to [Vitality]. Otherwise, save the mod space and forma, and use normal [Vitality] instead because by pairing Umbral mods for the set bonus, you're also taking away from other categories (i.e. Duration). Here is an example:

If using the following...

... then the base strength of Provoke (3) will be 19%. Applying conditionals brings that up to 24% with ability strength sitting at 120%.

However, with the following changes...

... then the base strength of Provoke (3) will become 8%. But wait; since [Maim] doesn't require high Ability Strength, then the 8% doesn't matter to you, it only matters to your teammates. So that's why we choose the [Power Donation] Aura, to increase the Ability Strength of teammates by ANOTHER 30%. Effectively, this raises their Ability Strength by a total of 38%, which is 14% higher than if you went with the [Growing Power] method and ultimately keeps your Duration at an optimal spot for lowered energy drain cost.

Range:

Maximum range is 280%, which comes from the use of [Cunning Drift] Exilus, [Overextended], [Stretch], and [Augur Reach]. FURTHER MENTION IN NEXT SECTION

[Energy Transfer] Augment

Replace [Augur Reach] with [Energy Transfer] because Range only drops by 5 meters and that's a small price to pay in order to utilize swapping between Night and Day forms to put enemies to sleep and increase survivability (considering [Equinox] doesn't have much of).

OR

Swap out [Augur Message] for [Energy Transfer] because a .2 energy cost increase is practically laughable. If you seem to have trouble with energy making this change, I would swap Arcane Aegis for Arcane Energize, or at the very least make sure you're using Zenurik focus while playing Equinox.

Playing:

Everyone has their own playstyle and plays their own difficulty of content that meets their needs/desires. For a general explanation on how this build should be used to maximize effectiveness, I would recommend the following:

1) Activate Provoke (3) right off the bat
2) Activate [Maim] (4) while Provoke (3) is active to gain increased damage from [Maim]'s aura
3) CONSTANTLY use Rage (2) for 20% increased damage to enemies AND to expend energy for the Augur mods to effectively provide Shield/Overshield.
4) Use weapons to accumulate enough damage for [Maim]
5) Deactivate Maim to 'nuke' enemies within 50.4 meters (45.4 meters if you swapped Reach for Energy Transfer)
4) Repeat 2-5

If you're using the [Energy Transfer] Augment, then step 3 would consist of either Rest or [Rage] based on your survival needs.

End notes:

You only need an Aura Forma.

I at one point had a slightly different build, but realized I could improve greatly on Range and be of more benefit to teammates, so I've done just that and I believe this to be an extremely effective [Maim] build. I have had absolutely zero issues and everything dies, just like we want them to! With the right weapons you should be able to accumulate plenty of damage for [Maim] to effectively 'nuke' everything in range. With the use of other Augur mods as well, you could increase survivability, even if only marginally. However, I don't 100% recommend Augur mods unless the stat increase itself is of benefit, or if you truly believe the increased set bonus would help you.

TL;DR - Build's awesome, try it out, please comment how it went :P
