[FAQ] Why are Faction Mods used in this build?

Note: This is not a Paracesis build!

This is a FAQ linked to many builds which explains the reasoning behind the inclusion of Faction Mods.

Why are Faction Mods used in this build?

The builds that we provide are primarily optimized to stand on their own unless otherwise noted in the build description or title. This usually entails the elimination of diminishing returns from individual mods while also dealing competitive damage against as many enemies as possible within the same faction.

Couldn't you just use a mod with similar damage?

Faction Mods provide a multiplicative damage bonus that's at least 1.55x your final damage on most builds. That's already higher than the final or penultimate mods due to diminishing returns accrued from stacking additive damage bonuses already in the loadout.

Faction Mods also apply their affects twice on DoT procs. Any build that relies on Slash, Electric, Toxin, Heat, or Gas procs will see a 2.4x increase in proc damage. This is incredibly potent on any build that relies on status effects rather than raw initial damage to deal with enemies.

What if I don't care about the damage lost?

Many of our builds need to change several mods if you completely cut the Faction damage. Certain status effects may not be able to compete with raw damage. We might have weighted our elements to get the perfect amount of the most damaging status effects. If you choose to not use the Faction Mods even after we've explained multiple times how the builds can benefit from their inclusion, we aren't responsible for any significant differences in performance.

If you ever get to a point where you do start caring about the lost damage, you're going to spend more time theorycrafting how to avoid the Faction Mods than you would've spent switching them out between each mission.
