Viral + Heat crowd killer

WEAPON OVERVIEW

The Ocucor's strength lies in its target-seeking tendrils and its innate radiation damage. It excels at applying status effects to many enemies at once, and the small amount of innate radiation damage makes the Ocucor very strong against Ancient Healer auras and Shield Drones and the like. In short, it is an anti-crowd weapon.

Strengths:

  • + hits many enemies at once
  • + innate radiation damage makes Ancient Healers and Shield Drones irrelevant

Weaknesses:

  • - low single-target damage
  • - requires a change of habits, since you should never reload this weapon
  • - low range
  • - rather poor ammo efficiency

Verdict: ★★★★☆ 4/5

This weapon does it all - it sets enemies on fire, it makes enemies fight each other, and it absolutely murders crowds. You probably don't want to kill a level 100 Heavy Gunner with this weapon - but a level 100 Heavy Gunner and a dozen level 100 Lancers at the same time? Absolutely!
It has too many downsides to be a 5-star weapon, but it's still an absolute beast under the right circumstances.

(Unfortunately, nowadays this weapon gets completely outclassed by the [Kuva Nukor].)

PLAY STYLE

The [Ocucor]'s strength lies in its tendrils, which disappear upon reload. You therefore want to avoid ever reloading this weapon. Instead of reloading, switch to your Primary or Melee weapon and let [Eject Magazine] do the job for you.

With those extra tendrils the [Ocucor] performs best against crowds, and is especially useful for dealing with Ancient Healers, Shield Drones, and other enemies that provide buffs.

RATIONALE BEHIND THE BUILD

  • Hornet Strike: Auto-include.
  • Galvanized Diffusion: Auto-include.
  • Frostbite & Pistol Pestilence:
    • Viral combo. Because the Ocucor has a high status chance and the tendrils only deal 50% damage, viral is a great status effect - since its damage multiplier isn't affected by the tendrils' 50% damage reduction. And since we have Heat damage to strip armor, Viral outperforms Corrosive on almost all enemies.
    • Using two 60/60 mods results in a very high status chance, which lets the [Ocucor] quickly and reliably crowd control enemies. Using one 90% elemental mod is also an option, but it doesn't increase the damage by much and makes radiation procs less consistent.
  • Primed Heated Charge:
    • Heat proc offers crowd control and strips armor.
    • Increases DPS significantly more than a 90% elemental mod would. Even if you decided to go for corrosive rather than viral, Primed Heated Charge is still worth using.
  • Pistol Gambit & Target Cracker: Pretty much auto-include. Since we already have 3 elemental mods, modding for crit results in higher damage than adding more elementals.
  • [Galvanized Shot]: This is simply the largest damage boost you can get out of a single mod. [Magnum Force] is also an option, but since the build is designed to be used against crowds, Galvanized Shot will usually easily outperform it.
  • Eject Magazine:
    • Eject Magazine lets you keep up your tendrils forever; reloading resets the tendrils and is a loss of DPS.
    • Since the [Ocucor]'s ammo efficiency is rather lacking, regularly holstering the Ocucor allows you to get some kills with your other weapons and pick up some ammo.

Why no Lethal Torrent?

  • Increased fire rate is a bit counterproductive on the [Ocucor], as you have to reload more often (which takes a whole 5 seconds with Eject Magazine), and it makes the ammo economy even worse because missed shots waste more ammo.
  • [Galvanized Diffusion] gives us plenty of Multishot, so [Lethal Torrent] isn't as relevant as it used to be.

SIDEGRADES

If you don't have the exilus slot unlocked, remove either Hornet Strike or Galvanized Shot.

  • [Pistol Pestilence] → Pathogen Rounds or Frostbite → Deep Freeze
(You can go for this if you have an extra mod slot with a dash polarity)
    • + Slightly increases damage
    • - Reduces status chance, making crowd control slower/less reliable

ARCANES

If you have it, you can try Arcane Pistoleer. Not having to holster the [Ocucor] every few seconds makes it even more fun to use!
