Venari doesn't have any shields by default, that's why she needs Link Shields.
Shield-gating grants invulnerability when shield is broken. The duration of invulnerability scales from 0.3 to 1 sec depending on how much shield is left when it's destroyed. This means that lower shields more consistently gives longer invulnerability, which is why Rank0 Link Shields is used.
And +Shield Recharge(Hastened Deflection) is ofc also gonna help with shield-gating.
