Chroma: Larva/Ensnare/Resonator - Credit Farming

Chroma Gameplay Guide

[Chroma] is a hybrid tank with balanced offensive and defensive options across a large array of content. None of his buffs are the strongest in their respective categories but his element rotation system allows him to utilize a larger array of buffs in comparison to most other frames.

📝 Build Overview 📝

Effigy grants additional credits from slain enemies near its radius. This isn't the best credit farm but it's an option for players that don't have access to more meta sources like the Index or Profit Taker. This build combines it with a loot support setup through the use of abilities from the Helminth system.

🔢 Helminth Options 🔢

Spectral Scream is replaced because it has marginal impact on his kit even after the buffs. Most builds only want a single element and changing it mid mission doesn't come up enough to warrant using the ability in most scenarios. Elemental Ward and Vex Armor are fairly weak so they can also be replaced.

Larva pulls enemies within the radius of Effigy so that they can easily be dispatched for credits. It needs low Duration to synergize with other loot boosting frames.

Ensnare also pulls enemies with the radius of Effigy but it has several setbacks. It's more expensive, slower, and doesn't synergize with some loot support abilities from other frames. What it does have is more range which may be necessary on some tilesets.

Resonator resets enemy AI which can allow you and your team to easily dispatch them for credits. It requires much higher Duration which may be difficult to fit into the build.

Petrify boosts the amount of drops from enemies with the augment but it can probably be done better by an ally frame with more Strength.

📊 Ability Stats 📊

Range and Efficiency are the most important stats on this build. Strength and Duration may need to be tweaked depending on the subsumed ability.

⏲️ Duration ⏲️

Duration is intentionally lowered to synergize with Larva and other looting abilities. Certain abilities like Strangledome and Tentacle Swarm can't grab enemies while they're already being grabbed by Larva. Lower than 30% may cause Larva to completely fizzle after being cast so it should be kept around this point. When using other abilities Duration should be increased so Transient Fortitude can be swapped with Primed Continuity.

⛽ Efficiency ⛽

Efficiency is increased by [Streamline] and Fleeting Expertise. On build that need more Duration Fleeting Expertise becomes a flex mod so replace it accordingly.

📏 Range 📏

Range is nearly maxed so that your subsumed abilities hit more enemies. It can be slightly lowered on smaller tilesets so Augur Reach becomes a flex mod.

💪 Strength 💪

Strength shouldn't matter on this build. None of your loot abilities are impacted by it. Petrify and the augment need additional Strength but fitting it into the build may be difficult.

↔️ Alternate Playstyles ↔️

Most builds utilize tools that can be swapped out to serve the same purpose albeit in a different manner. The following suggestions are an outline and aren't exhaustive.

🔧 Mods 🔧

  • [Enemy Radar] helps you and your team to find more enemies to loot. It can be replaced if the team is already running multiple forms of Enemy Radar.
  • [Rolling Guard] protects you from higher level enemies if you decide to use this build for extended missions. It's a flex mod when intentionally farming low level enemies for loot.
  • Transient Fortitude is a flex mod if you're not using Larva. It's run here to intentionally lower your Duration further.
  • Chroma has lackluster base augments but flex mods can be replaced to fit them into the build.

⚙️ Arcanes ⚙️

Arcane Energize keeps your energy topped off between waves. It can be replaced if you're relying entirely on energy regeneration. Defensive arcanes like Arcane Aegis or quality of life arcanes like Arcane Consequence are usually the call.

Arcane Pulse grants free health to ally frame that use their health as an energy source. This primarily applies to [Nekros] with [Despoil] equipped. If you're not playing with a [Nekros] then any other arcane can be used instead. Tertiary defensive arcanes like Arcane Deflection or Arcane Resistance are usually the call.

📋 Final Notes 📋

Elemental Ward has wildly varied usage depending on what element is chosen. Heat gives the best survivability bonus when combined with Vex Armor. Cold reflects enemy area of effects attacks which can significantly limit their damage. Toxin provides a great holster and reload speed bonus on low Strength builds. Electricity is better on frames that have massive shield pools and shield regeneration.

Spectral Scream isn't necessary to select elements. You primary emission color will also change what element you start the mission using. Listing off every single color and their elements isn't a reasonable option for this guide but you can tell which element you'll get when you go to the color customization screen.
