Chroma: Warcry/Nourish/Ensnare - Team Buffs

Chroma Gameplay Guide

[Chroma] is a hybrid tank with balanced offensive and defensive options across a large array of content. None of his buffs are the strongest in their respective categories but his element rotation system allows him to utilize a larger array of buffs in comparison to most other frames.

📝 Build Overview 📝

This build focuses on getting significant mileage from Elemental Ward and Vex Armor for the entire team. Energy economy is sacrificed so that Chroma can become a powerful buff support frame.

🔢 Helminth Options 🔢

Spectral Scream is replaced because it has marginal impact on his kit even after the buffs. Most builds only want a single element and changing it mid mission doesn't come up enough to warrant using the ability in most scenarios. Effigy can be replaced if you're not planning on using the increased credit bonuses.

Warcry provides a huge boost in attack speed along with some armor and crowd control potential. It's expensive and has a relatively short duration so it should only be used sparingly or when you have a massive amount of extra energy.

Nourish provides healing and some additional damage but may change the elements on your weapons depending on the order of your mods. Most meta builds shouldn't be significantly impacted.

Ensnare and Larva synergize with high Range but are too expensive to be used as consistent crowd control.

Quality of life abilities like Fire Walker or Spellbind are reasonable choices but they may be redundant against some content.

[Xata]'s Whisper, Roar, and Eclipse are forcibly subsumed over Vex Armor and have far less usability in regular missions.

📊 Ability Stats 📊

Strength and Range are boosted to give [Chroma] a supportive role to other frames. Duration and Efficiency is kept close to the baseline with a few mods to keep the energy economy in check.

⏲️ Duration ⏲️

Duration is a bit above the baseline as the build doesn't have much room to increase it further. [Narrow Minded] can be run over a flex mod on smaller tilesets. [Augur Message] or [Constitution] instead of a Range mod is a similar option but due to the polarity plan it might not be possible to fit the mods into the build.

⛽ Efficiency ⛽

Efficiency is lowered by [Blind Rage] but we slightly bring it back with [Streamline]. This is done to keep a steady energy economy with multiple buffs being cast on their cooldowns. [Blind Rage] is difficult to replace and Fleeting Expertise hurts the Duration too heavily on this build. Streamline is a flex mod on builds with energy assistance.

📏 Range 📏

Range is increased so that each buff is able to hit mobile team members. It can be lowered when playing missions with little movement. [Overextended] is a bigger flex mod as replacing it also gives you a massive chunk of ability Strength back for your buffs. Stretch may need to be replaced instead due to the polarity plan.

💪 Strength 💪

Strength is boosted by several mods and even an ability in some scenarios. This may be overkill depending on the type of mission that you're playing but the purpose of greedy builds is to allow any weapon to dispatch enemies quickly. Flex mods can be replaced by even more Strength mods but the diminishing returns and relative weakness of the remaining Strength mods are going to make them have almost no impact.

↔️ Alternate Playstyles ↔️

Most builds utilize tools that can be swapped out to serve the same purpose albeit in a different manner. The following suggestions are an outline and aren't exhaustive.

🔧 Mods 🔧

  • [Growing Power] is easy to proc and grants another source of Strength for greedy builds. It's the weakest source of Strength so it can be replaced if you're concerned by the diminished returns.
  • [Primed Sure Footed] is a great quality of life buff but it's a login reward so replace it with anything that fits into the polarity plan. It's also suggested that you polarize the exilus slot only after you've gained access to the mod due to the few Vazarin polarity exilus options.
  • Stretch and Overextended are flex mods on smaller tilesets or missions with little movement.
  • [Primed Flow] and [Streamline] synergize with your massive base energy but they can be flex mods on teams that have energy recovery like Trinity or Dispensary.
  • Chroma has lackluster base augments but flex mods can be replaced to fit them into the build.

⚙️ Arcanes ⚙️

Arcane Energize synergizes with [Primed Flow] and allows you to be greedy with your ability casts. It can be replaced if you're confident with your energy economy. Offensive arcanes like Arcane Strike or Arcane [Fury] are usually the call.

Arcane [Guardian] grants you additional survivability by simply getting hit. It can be replaced if you're confident in your survivability or when playing against extremely high level enemies. Tertiary offensive arcanes like Arcane Avenger or defensive arcanes like Arcane Aegis are usually the call.

📋 Final Notes 📋

Elemental Ward has wildly varied usage depending on what element is chosen. Heat gives the best survivability bonus when combined with Vex Armor. Cold reflects enemy area of effects attacks which can significantly limit their damage. Toxin provides a great holster and reload speed bonus on low Strength builds. Electricity is better on frames that have massive shield pools and shield regeneration.

Spectral Scream isn't necessary to select elements. You primary emission color will also change what element you start the mission using. Listing off every single color and their elements isn't a reasonable option for this guide but you can tell which element you'll get when you go to the color customization screen.
