You can use other companions for this build, I personally just use this specific type for its tankiness and support, the most important parts are the [Mecha Recharge] and [Mecha Overdrive] to reduce the cooldown at which the mark resets.
Would recommend that you keep it alive if you can.
([Mecha Overdrive] goes on the claws however this is not showable).
