The Broken Void | Xaku Non-helminth and Variants

This is a basic non-helminth shield gating [Xaku] build for general use in starchart, steel path and endurance with many possible helminth options and build variations.

Terrify [Xaku]:

PLAYSTYLE

  1. Tap 4 (Vast Untime) first to freeze all timers BEFORE you cast other abilities to maximise their respective timers. Every time you recast 4, each ability ticks down a tiny bit. Vast Untime slows enemies in radius and also applies a 50% vulnerability to void damage (i.e. affects [Xata]'s and [Lohk]).
  2. Activate 1 ([Xata]'s Whisper) to buff your weapons with void damage which good against Thrax (1.5x bonus) as well as Overguard (a further 1.5x bonus). Void status also creates void bubbles that attract projectiles into the bubble.
  3. Activate 2 (Grasp of [Lohk]) when there are enemies around to 'steal' guns'. This will summon a number turrets that auto target enemies and SCALE with enemy level. Strength affects the damage of each gun and range affects the number of guns. At maximum range you will have 16 guns. Each turret deals 50 x strength x enemy level. This means at 200% strength and at level 9999, each turret deals approximately 1 million damage per shot at a rate of 1 shot per second. At 15 guns, this equates to 15 million damage per second which enough to kill most enemies at levelcap very quickly, even when divided among several enemies, especially with armor strip from Gaze or viral priming.
  4. Make sure to INVERT Tap/Hold controls. Hold 3 to cycle to Accuse, then tap 3 to convert a whole bunch of enemies into allies (minimap will be filled with blue dots).
  5. Hold 3 to cycle to Gaze and Tap 3 ideally on up to TWO accused enemies about 15-20m apart. This will create a passive zone of armor strip in 22m. Note: Casting [Gaze] on an Accused enemy is ideal so other accused enemies dont waste time trying to attack the Gazed enemy.
  6. If you take damage and lose shields, tap 1 to gain a little shield for gate OR tap 4 gain a bigger gate as well as apply radial slow (approx 50%) and void damage vulnerability.

SURVIVABILITY

[Xaku] has an innate 75% dodge passive while Vast Untime is active, which combined with active Shield Gating and Crowd Control, will allow you to survive reasonably easily at any level.
1. Shield Gating: When shields break you will gain a certain amount of i-frames prevent all damage to health depending on the maximum amount of shields reached prior to breaking. Casting abilities with [Brief Respite] and Augur mods present will regenerate shields allowing you to reset your shield gate on demand. At 45% efficiency with [Brief Respite] + THREE augur mods (one on frame and two on Burst Laser Prime), casting Xata's Whisper costs 39 energy which generates 104 shield which equates to about 0.8s i-frames. Casting Vast Untime generates 418 shield which equates to 1.45s i-frames. I would generally recommend casting [Xata]'s Whisper for active gating since it is MUCH cheaper and faster to cast than Vast Untime. Catalyzing Shields is OPTIONAL and simply improves the efficiency of i-frames so each cast of Xata's Whisper now gives the max 1.33s gate instead of 0.8s. Rolling Guard gives additional 3s i-frame and status cleanse which is quite useful as backup but is also OPTIONAL and dependant on your preference.
2. Crowd Control: Accuse (from The Lost) is a vastly underrated ability which converts around 15 and more enemies into allies which draw aggro from other enemies, meaning you will even more rarely take damage. Vast Untime also slows enemies (up to 100% freeze at 400% strength, which is NOT really required).

BUILD SPECIFICS

Duration
Vast Untime freezes ability timers which means you effectively only need to recast 4 once every 30s - 40s. Having more duration helps reduce the frequency you need to recast 4.

Efficiency
Minimum efficiency is viable since after the initial energy cost of casting [Xata] and [Lohk], you do not need to recast them, and only need to spend 155 energy to cast 4 once every 40s and the occasional Accuse or [Gaze], with additional casts of [Xata] for active shield gating. [Primed Flow] gives you higher energy capacity and [Equilibrium] allows you to convert health orbs into energy. Each eximus kill guarantees 2 health orbs which is equivalent to 110 energy and Synth Deconstruct on a companion such as Diriga/Panzer/Hound contributes to more health orb production. [Archon Stretch] is an optional addition that can be activated by certain companions ([Diriga] with [Arc Coil], any sentinel with [Coolant Leak] and electric modded weapon + [Manifold Bond], beast with [Shock Collar] and Hounds with [Synergized Prospectus]) giving free passive energy [Regen]. Additional energy sources if you find energy difficulties include the following: Arcane Energize, [Tenet Glaxion], [Grimoire] with [Xata Invocation], Emergence Dissipate, Zenurik Wellspring, Primary Exhilarate.

Range
Range is [Xaku]'s most important stat because it scales the number of guns stolen by Grasp of [Lohk], the radius of [Gaze], Accuse and Deny and the radius of Vast Untime. Because Grasp of Lohk scales with base 6 guns x range, and rounds down, the cut-offs of range required for guns are 250% range for 15 guns and 267% range for 16 guns. [Cunning Drift] is optional.

Strength
Strength is required primarily for the armor strip from [Gaze], which reaches 100% at 200% strength OR 164% strength when Corrosive Projection is equipped, as well as the damage of Grasp of Lohk and enemy limit for Accuse if you want to use it.

Aura

  • Brief Respite helps with shield gating.
  • Corrosive Projection helps reduce the strength for full armor strip to 164%.

Exilus
Completely flexible

  • Cunning Drift gives one more lohk gun and more range for Gaze/Accuse
  • Primed Sure Footed if you prefer to always avoid knockdowns or power drift to help hit strength thresholds.

Arcanes
Molt Efficiency - gives even more duration
Molt Augmented - can build up 60% strength after 250 kills
Energize - optional if you own for more energy economy
Arcane Aegis - gives extra passive survivability

Flexible Options
Blind rage - if you have energy issues, consider dropping Blind Rage for Transient Fortitude
Catalyzing Shields - optional addition to gain slightly more i-frames per cast
Natural Talent - very useful if you don't have one or two amber cast speed shards equipped

Archon Shards
2 Amber Cast speed - reduce cast speed of The Vast Untime to reduce time loss of 2 as well as cast speed of quiver
3 Crimson Strength Shards - strength boosts the amount of enemies you can accuse, the damage of Lohk, the buff of Xata's Whisper

HELMINTH

Non-helminth
While [Xata]'s Whisper doesnt have much synergy with Xaku's other abilities, Xata's Whisper has some synergies with weapons including:

  • Miter Incarnon: Xata bubble sucks the additional discs (up to 3) back into the same enemy until they are dead
  • [Latron] Incarnon: [Xata] bubble sucks the bouncing projectile back into the enemy until they are dead, where normally it would bouncy far away potentially not hitting another enemy
  • [Prisma Angstrum]: [Xata] bubble sucks in [Angstrum] projectiles

Quiver Arrow
Subsume over1. Quiver Arrow can be used for a lazy afk camping playstyle. Cloak Arrow creates a 6+m radius bubble at the point of contact that makes everything inside invisible so you never get shot at, even by acolytes and eximus (note, the invisibility affects humanoid defense targets but does NOT affect defense pod or excavation cryopods). This is the extreme lazy approach to AFK [Xaku], similar to how [Octavia] is played, but possibly even lazier since you don't need to spam crouch.

Pillage
Subsume over 3. Pillage is excellent for a more mobile playstyle, as you can replace 3 and strip armor on the move, while also gaining extra survivability and status cleanse. You can use basically the same build but swap [Brief Respite] for [Corrosive Projection] and Molt Efficiency for Arcane Steadfast. [Augur Reach] is also flexible for [Streamline]. Arcane Steadfast with [Mystic Bond] on your sentinel will also significantly improve your energy economy.

Terrify
Subsume over 3. Terrify is an alternative mobile armor strip option that also provides simultaneous crowd control, but unfortunately does NOT work on acolytes and has a target limit.

Nourish
Subsume over 1. Boosts energy economy and Nourish applies to accused enemies.

Resonator
Turns off enemy AI, but does NOT affect Eximus or overguarded enemies, meaning you may often still be targeted.

ARSENAL

Primers
A viral + radiation primer such as [Kuva Nukor] or [Epitaph] allows you to viral prime enemies to take more damage from [Lohk] guns while radiation status converts accused "allies" into enemies again so they can be targeted by Lohk guns AND Gaze armor strip.

Companions
[Shade] or [Huras Kubrow] can also keep you invisible WITHOUT quiver arrow, as long as you don't shoot a weapon, but is not as reliable.
