The Packmother's Hunt - Ulfrun's Descent build

Update 35: [Precision Intensify] gives us about 15% more damage with LESS cost than [Umbral Intensify]. I can't believe they made a mod specifically for this build! [Voruna] mains stay winning.

I also added an option to use green shards under the Archon Shards section. Thanks to @Weedle for pointing their power out to me.

I really like Ulfrun's Descent, both in terms of its effects and its aesthetics, but it has historically been [Voruna]'s weakest ability. With the release of Ulfrun's Endurance, however, the build has become much more effective.

The damage of Ulfrun's Descent is modified by the following:

  • Ability Strength (we're sitting at 394% for Descent with archon shards and Molt Augmented)
  • Shroud of Dynar (guaranteed crits, increased crit damage)
  • At least 1 status effect on target (doubled total damage)
  • Number of Ulfrun's Descent kills prior (+200% damage, +5% crit chance, +0.1 crit multiplier per prior kill, up to 5 kills/10x multiplier)

With all possible buffs active and 250 stacks of Molt Augmented, the fully empowered lunge and resultant slash proc will do several million damage to most things and clear out entire rooms with ease due to [Voruna]'s superior AoE capabilities. This build is strong enough to kill anything in one or two hits even on Steel Path. Even armored targets will most likely die to the slash proc with the full damage multiplier.

Now that we have [Ulfrun's Endurance], we never (or rarely) have to deactivate Ulfrun's Descent since Slash kills refresh it! Each kill with Descent or its slash proc will always restore 1 charge of Descent no matter what, meaning we can keep it up indefinitely. Descent itself can't restore more than 1 charge at a time, but Slash procs from other sources, such as Fangs of Raksh, can restore multiple charges from a single cast. If you start running low on charges, spam 2 until you're full again.

Archon Shards
Use 5 Crimson Shards, increasing Ability Strength.

--NEW--
You can also use 2 to 5 green shards, giving 10% increased ability damage on enemies affected by corrosive. This dramatically increases your damage potential, though with diminishing returns after 2 shards. If you can't afford 5 (I know I can't), 2 green shards is enough. This REQUIRES [Archon Continuity], however, so don't use green shards unless you have that. You won't apply corrosive often enough without that mod for it to be worth it. If you go this route, make sure you put corrosive damage on your companion as well. You want to make sure you have as many chances of applying corrosive as possible. You'll also want to use her 2 at least twice before attacking, just to ensure the enemy has the status effect (64% chance of applying corrosive with one use of 2, 87% chance with two uses). If whatever you're attacking doesn't have corrosive on it, you'll be missing out on a lot of damage. Overall, this version of the build is significantly stronger but also less reliable and more expensive. It's worth it if you can afford it, though.

Helminth
With the 34.0.5 hotfix, this build no longer uses helminth abilities.

Arcanes
Molt Augment is there to increase your damage, which can be very helpful for armored enemies.
Since we're using Lycath's [Hunt] now, Arcane Blessing will allow us to increase our survivability dramatically.

Equipment
A weapon that can strip armor is recommended for the rare times when you can't do so with Unairu or Fangs of Raksh. A melee weapon with [Condition Overload] is also helpful as a backup.
Since this build uses a ton of energy and attacks exclusively with abilities, I highly recommend running a companion with [Vicious Bond] and [Duplex Bond]. With the new companion update, we can have a whole pack of companions running around stripping armor and spreading the debuff.

Focus School
Unairu: Caustic Strike helps strip armor, which is this build's biggest weakness.
Madurai: For extra damage, plus operator damage.

Substitutions

  • You can use [Primed Continuity] (or regular [Continuity]) if you don't have the Archon version. The difference between the Archon and Primed mods is minimal unless you're using green shards.
  • You can fit Archon Stretch in with 1 more forma, but it's not strictly necessary.

Gameplay Loop

  • Use Voruna's second passive most of the time. If things start getting dicey, switch to her fourth passive.
  • Keep Lycath's Hunt (3), Ulfrun's Descent (4), and Shroud of Dynar (1) up at all times.
  • Use Fangs of Raksh (2) to inflict status effects on enemies. This increases the damage of Descent, and kills against those enemies increase the duration of Lycath's Hunt.
  • Once the above conditions are met, you can start spamming Ulfrun's Descent to murder whole rooms.
    - Important: If in a mission with armored enemies, before you have the 10x multiplier, you will likely need to apply status effects with 2 and/or strip their armor using Unairu's Caustic Strike or a primer weapon before attacking them with 4. Descent won't do enough damage to get the kill outright otherwise. You'll still be able to kill them without stripping armor once you do reach 10x, though. If the main strike doesn't do it, the Slash proc will.
  • If you start running low on Descent charges, spam 2 until things start dying to Slash procs and you can get a few extra charges.

Tl;dr, press 3, press 4, press 1, press 2 on an enemy, spam left click. If enemy is armored, armor strip might be necessary.

Change Log
