LJ's Umbral Inaros - Melee Crit Build

[Overview]

Everyone has their own version of "THIS IS THE MOST IMMORTAL UMBRAL [Inaros] EVER".

This one is mine.

You know the basics. [Inaros]' kit is pretty lackluster outside Pocket Sand and Bug Armor, and nothing really seems to need much in the way of casting or even stats. Throw on Scarab armor, beat the heck out of everything, top off health with Pocket Sand finishers or Zombie-munch Devour casts.

The way this one is 'different' is that I have a crit-based zaw (with some gladiator mods), and am ignoring Health Conversion/Equilibrium/[Synth Deconstruct] for a kavat.

MODS

  • Umbral Set

Big boi survival boost. You technically don't even need the [Intensify], but then you miss out on the triple bonus boost. You could probably put something else in there to get MAX ARMOR or whatever, but really, if you're getting pounded as [Inaros], you probably need to change up your strategy. I mean, you could probably swap this out for Gladiator Finesse, but you do you.

  • Gladiator Resolve and Aegis

Yeah, more sustain, but really I just want to increase my combo-counter-crit-bonus.

I can't think of a better place to put [Adaptation] than on Tanky types that definitely get hit a lot. Kicks EHP way, way up.

Sure, scarab swarm can do damage and heal your team, but really its best use is to combine with the augment, and give you protection vs status effects. Dessication's Curse I just like because I honestly spam the hell outta pocket sand just because it's so funny (and makes for easy healing via finishers). If you never Dessicate, or don't care for the (worthless) Sand Shadow things, then just swap this out for another sustain, or perhaps Gladiator's Finesse. Negation Swarm is, however, not negotiable. Always slot it.

SUPPLEMENTALS

  • Primary/Secondary

Syndicate weapons shine here if they boost your Armor or health. Steel Meridian, Arbiters of Hexis, and New Loka all heal you when they proc. Steel meridian also buffs your base armor, while New Loka buffs your base Health. Neither of those add-on effects are game changers, but hey, more sustain is more sustain. The new [Basmu] can heal you with its reload mechanic, and [Hema] can heal you on headshots, if you want to go those routes. Finally the Amalgam mod for the [Daikyu] can be neat if you want ot stomp around wtih a [Nikana], as it gives a pretty nifty perma 3% lifesteal on [Nikana] attacks.

  • Melee

I use [Inaros] for basically anything I want to facetank my way through. Load in, turn on Scarab Swarm, then go beat faces, topping up scarab swarm as needed. As part of this, i also tend to have a zaw wtih crit and range, just so I can wipe the floor with whatever trash heads my way.

But that style doesn't work for everybody.

A zaw with "Exodia [Hunt]" is nice because it can drag people close to you on slams, allowing you (SOMETIMES) to get off easy finishers. A [Nikana] (with paired [Daikyu]+Amalgam) will mean you are pretty well much extra hellishly regenerative, especially since Nikana Heavy Attacks all can hit like slash-based trucks.

If you have a weapon you like using heavy attacks with (and hate using dessicate/devour), throw on Life Strike to always fill up your health whenever you hold that button down. Plus, there's some really solid Heavy-attack-based builds out there, with finishing touch and such.

Finally, the oft-forgotten [Hirudo] can heal you. It's funny watching an Inaros breakdance fight with a decently modded Crit Hirudo.

  • Companion

I like kavats to be on-theme, and to see crazy numbers due to Link-Armor and Link-Health. Another option is [Helios] with [Deconstructor], and putting Gladiator mods on the weapon. This increases your total bonus from gladiator, which is always nice.

  • School

I like Naramon. If you're going for a 'hybrid Combo-Heavy" build, you probably want Zenurik to save your combo meter when getting cray, as Inner Might saves a bunch of combo efficiency. Madurai could work, but... meh.

  • Arcanes

You can heal from finishers and devour. You don't need energy. You do need to survive better, and do damage. I melee almost nonstop with my [Inaros], so I chose [Fury] and [Guardian]. You can probably drop those for something you prefer if you are using a unique playstyle. Heck, you get damaged a ton, so Arcane Avenger is an amazingly solid choice. Unfortunately you'll have to test in the Simulacrum with your personal build just to determine which of those works best for you.

And... that's it. Thanks for reasing!
