F2P Starter Volt (Full Loadout, Walkthrough, and Upgrade Path)

Warning

This is the bare minimum set of mods to make [Volt] semi functional. Its made to be beginner friendly in a way that you can just buy all the mods at MR 2 REALLY cheaply. At the time of writing (2022-05-26), everything here except the Energy Siphon can be bought together for 11 Platinum, and the Energy Siphon cost 20 Platinum if you don't want to wait.

This is not mean for late game or farming runs. This is solely meant to teach the new players the basic of modding and ability use while saving as much mid game materials as possible. Currently, at the time of writing, this build should be able to one shot most T1 (Level 5~15) enemies with its 1st ability, while needing only 4k endo and no mid game materials. Everything needed for this build is made to be completable on MR2 while requiring minimum efforts (like, you can finish this while you are still on Earth). If you got any suggestions, let me know in the comment.

Suggested use case

RUN and GUN

This build is build under the ideology of run and gun. You have limited shield and health so use them well. Your shock (1st skill) is your DPS, your speed (2nd skill) is for disengage and or traveling, your shield (3rd skill) is your main defence (either standing behind it on defence mission or grabbing it during your run), and your discharge (4th skill) is crowd control. If possible, swap out the Redirection with Flow for better run. And if you are REALLY out of your mind, try farming for Continuity too. Just keep in mind, it takes me around 50 minutes to finish 20 waves (even though I'm WAYY under powered using a MK-1 [Braton] for the first 18 waves and switching to a [Lato] for the last 2).

P.S. When you are doing Rescue missions, USE YOUR speed (2nd skill). It WILL apply the same buff to your target cause they are counted as ally.

Acquisition

Streamline, Stretch, Intensify

The best method is to farm T1 (Level 5~15) Bounties on Cetus, Earth till Stage 2 for 7.52% chance and Stage 3 for 30%. Both stages have a chance to drop those mods.

You might be wondering, is it worth it? Welp, it REALLY is. For starter, you got WAY MORE then just those 3 mods. Instead, some of the more useful mods can be obtained through this way. Check this out:

ModsEffect (Equipment)Reward
Pressure Point+20~120% Melee Damage (Melee)20% on Stage 1 and 15.5% on Stage 2
Point Blank+15~90% Damage (Shotgun)7.52% on Stage 2 and 30.56% on Stage 3
Hornet Strike+20~220% Damage (Pistol)7.52% on Stage 2 and 30.56% on Stage 3

P.S. Avoid doing this at night time. Cause at this level, you have no way to deal with spectral enemy yet. You can check the time by pointing at Cetus or Plains of Eidolon. And it will show you when will it become night or day.

A bonus option for Intensify, you can do T1 (Level 5~15) Excavation and every 3rd, 7th, and so on drill will net you an 7.7% chance of getting one. This also doubles as a farm for Endo.

Augur Message

When you encounter assassin bounties when you are farming the other 3 mods, there is a 33.3% chance to spawn a Recon Commander as your target. IF that's the case, upon his death, there will be a 37.94% chance you got this drop.

Energy Siphon

The only way to get it is just on rotation in the Nightwave Cred Offerings (just go to navigation and look at the banner on the bottom right of your screen) for 20 Cred (it refreshes every week). While you are waiting for refresh, don't forget to pick up some useful mods like Steel Charge, Physique, Enemy Radar, and Loot Detector (all 20 creds, priority in descending order).

Credits

For some reason, this site never shows you the credit needed to level up your mods. So here is a quick run down. As you can see from the chart below, it cost over 142k credit to upgrade everything. So how the heck are we supposed to get that? Welp, the best in level credit farm is actually on Malva, Venus. Just by simply completing this survival mission gives 10k+ credits, the main point here is: COMPLETION. That's right, by simply completing this mission, you got 10k+ credits. And all it cost is 5 minutes. Also, the more player in your group, the more it pays, so make sure you set it on public.

Endo

And finally, Endo. You see that ball looking thing below the build name? That's right, that's endo. You WILL need it to upgrade your mods. The quick and simple way to do it is just do T1 Excavation and leave after 2 drills (every drill on rotation A has a 42.9% chance to get 100 endo) which cost around 6 minutes if lucky. So just rinse and repeat that at least 17 more times. Of course, then there are the Ayatan Treasures. Through out missions, you have a 1/7 chance to get a sculpture spawn. So find them and fill them with stars, which have a random drop chance from storage containers and lockers (keep an eye out on either that white icon, and mark it for your group using "G" if not playing solo before picking it up). Ones completed, you can exchange them at Maroo at her Bazaar on Mars from 1,425 endo all the way to 2,700 endo.

Next Step

The primary weapon and secondary weapon had already been planned out. The weapons from MR4 and up in each respective trees are aimed towards clearing the star chart. The next step in those trees are to work towards Eidolon hunting. While the [Rhino] suggestion is to get you something bulky enough for Index farming for faster credits. But right now, my focus will be to find a way to work thru the melee weapon tree first.

Warframe

After you have complete this, you should start farming for [Rhino]. You can farm his blueprints (beside the main one, that had to be bought from the market with 35k credits) on Fossa, Venus. The boss, Jackal's shield is weak against Magnetic Damage, which is made by combining cold and electricity, while his armor is weak against Electric Damage, so kill it's shield with something magnetic and blast away with shock (1st skill) or put down your shield (3rd skill) and blast through it. Whenever it tries to attack with the spinning Grid Wall attack, use your speed (2nd skill) to get out of the way.

Shotgun Tree (Primary Weapon)

Grab [Strun] from the market right away for 25k credits once you [Reach] MR1. Some people might be screaming from their lungs yelling for [Boltor], but this is actually a better choice for this guide cause I'm building towards the [Hek]. If you still prefer the Bolter instead, follow this guide instead. Now, put a max Hell's Chamber (go do T1 (Level 1~17) Defence for 15 waves to get Rotation B) along with a max Point Blank on that bad boy (see chart above) and a Max Chilling Reload (you will need to do Nightmare Mode Missions (beside Rescue) on either Mercury, Venus, Earth, or Mars). Just follow this guide if you want a more detailed guide.

Grab [Boar]'s Blueprint by farming Drekar Troopers (those blue grineers) starting on MR2 and once you have unlocked Phobos (Earth, Mariana might be your only option for now). It use the same mods as the [Strun], so start farming [Hek]'s mod now (guide coming soon). If for some reason you still want a full guide (cause you don't know where to farm the ingredients or etc.), here it is.

Grab [Hek]'s Blueprint from the marketplace for 15k credits once you [Reach] MR4. There is just nothing better at the level.

Pistol Tree (Secondary Weapon)

Grab [Stug]'s blueprint from the marketplace for 20k credits once you [Reach] MR2. There is just nothing better at the level that I know of. There are a LOT of ways to max out this weapon's potential, but that is not what we are here for. We just need this till we [Reach] MR5 and grab the [Atomos] while getting some of the mods ready ahead of time. So start with putting a Rank 9 Hornet Strike on (see chart above). Then put a maxed Barrel Diffusion (Dark Sector Defence for 20 waves) and a Rank 4 [Augur Pact] (obtained like Augur Message from above) to boost it's DPS, and that's it. Just follow this guide if you want a more detailed guide.

Grab [Atomos]'s Blueprint from the marketplace for 30k credits once you [Reach] MR5. This is something I need to test out.

Melee Weapon (MR3)

Grab [Galatine]'s blueprint from the marketplace for 25k credits once you [Reach] MR3. There is just nothing better at the level. Put a max Pressure Point on that bad boy (see chart above or T1 (Level 5~15) Defence first 5 to 10 wave having 9% chance each) along with a max Killing Blow (can be gotten from Lieutenant Lech Kril on [War], Mars) and a max Quickening (do T1 Dark Sector Survival for 20 minutes for a 11.3% chance). Just follow this guide if you want a more detailed guide.

Melee Weapon (MR5)

Grab [Atterax]'s blueprint from the marketplace for 20k credits once you [Reach] MR5. There is just nothing better at the level.

FAQ (and also a good read for newbies)

  1. Mod Capacity
You might be wondering, why don't you use Orokin Reactor (doubles the mod capacity), or Forma (change the polarity of mod slots) to allow me to max everything and or adding more mods, its simple: those stuff takes time. You either rise through the nightwave ranks (the Warframe version of battlepass), unlock the whole star chart hopping for a good sortie that rewards them, or have to go go farming at the void. And none of them are easy to do at the beginning.
  2. Mod Choices
You might be wondering, why don't you use Constitution, Augur Secrets, or some other better stat mods, its simple: those mods are harder to get. A lot of more efficient or strong mods requires either nightmare survival (Constitution), T4 Cetus Bounty (Augur Secrets), or worst. Which means the player either need taxing or plat to get them early game.
  3. Weapon Choices
You might be wondering, why do I use all those purchasable weapons. It's simple, repeatability. Some new players like to unlock the star chart first, skipping tons of missions and planets as fast as possible. So it's much easier to control the variables with purchasable weapons as your first step.

Extra Credits

Continuity

go do T1 (Level 1~17) Defence for 20 waves so you can get the Rotation C reward (the rotation goes by AABC for every 5 wave).

Flow

There are 3 ways to do it... and I [Hate] the first 2. So i will just leave those 2 later and said the 3rd way right away. That is (drum roll please): Warframe Trade Chat. That's right, for the low low price of around 2 Plat (at the time of writing, AND if you have purchased platinum), you can have yourself a Flow that either takes way too long to grind or relies solely on luck. Of course, it will cost you around 8k credit for the transaction fee so... don't forget to bring some credits.

The first one is the usual grinding method that REQUIRES you to either:

  1. Do Dark Sector Survival (check under dark sector survival T3) and survive for 15 minutes for Rotation B

OR

  1. Complete The War Within to gain access to the Kuva Fortress in order to do T3 Survival for 15 minutes (Rotation B again)
Both of which sucks, and they only gives you 6.67% drop chance anyway. (honorable mention goes to T3 Excavation, same drop rate on every 3rd, 7th, and 11th etc)

The second one is a bit more cheeky and quick. Turns out that every Tenno Specter has a 3% chance to drop mods and 1 of the 5 possible ones is Flow (which amounts to 0.6% drop chance). So that means in theory, you CAN just either obtain it normally, OR by farming junctions.... on a 0.6% of chance.... so I guess its buying it for me.
