Caliban builds

This build focuses on Caliban's Fusion Strike as a utility/buff.

Mods

You can save two forma by using an Umbral instead of two Naramons. It keeps the mods more flexible too.

Arcane Consequence is preference. Energize is recommended.

[Umbral Vitality] is effectively a strength mod. You need no more than 200%. Flexible with other strength mods to potentially save capacity.

Energy is a huge issue for [Caliban]. This build however has the ability to permanently strip everything you see.

[Natural Talent] unfortunately necessary as abilities have very long cast times.

[Stretch] is flexible with [Primed Flow]. May need more forma.

How To Play

Fusion Strike is central to [Caliban], and the only reason you should consider playing him. It affects many bosses, probably including Hemocyte. I suggest casting this while aimgliding to make up for being a full-body animation. Spam it everywhere. Get familiar with the radius.

Sentient Wrath is an okay bonus. Quite addictive to cast all the time. Amplifies damage, even on targets that do not get lifted. Decent nuke at low levels. Target cap is never a concern. Affects enemies in a spherical radius round you, including directly above and below, so use it to clear low level rooms. It's a great alternative to melee ground slams.

  • It lifts enemies, which is unfortunate, as some attacks can cause them to leave orbit. The lift is also very temporary, as any damage to a target affected by this specific lift will immediately be released from the lift. This makes it a somewhat poor crowd controller.

Lethal Progeny is not worth the time to cast. The summons do little damage, they are slow, and they attract little attention from enemies despite having very high EHP. Their shield restoration only works if you already have shields, which is useless. They also wander out of shield [Regen] range, and cannot be recalled or recast on their own, making them unreliable for what little they provide. Their base damage is about 150. The shield restoration is handy at low levels, as enemies struggle to break through.

Needs a helminth ability to replace Razor [Gyre] or Lethal Progeny to solve survival.

Helminth

Absolutely required in order to play Caliban. He desperately lacks survival.

  • Condemn - my personal preference. Very reliable shield gate and stuns enemies so they won't break your shield right away. Remember to always cast Condemn first as it cannot hit enemies that are lifted or ragdolled by either of your two abilities. Use with Decaying Dragon Key, which does not negatively affect overshields.
  • Resonator - suggested by another guide. Not as suitable for the mobility of this guide, but will reliably redirect all enemy aggro away from you.
  • Gloom - you already have high strength and nearly maximum efficiency. Extends the stuns of Fusion Strike and Sentient Wrath, which you always cast. Adding [Flow] and more strength may be preferred.
