Extensive Protea Build and Ideas

What this page is and Build Explanation

The aim of this page is to note and keep track of all the mods, arcanes, etc. that synergize with the frame Protea in some way as I find them. The above build is what I personally would use to get the best general-purpose [Protea] build given the mods. It utilizes the [Equilibrium]+Synth Fiber combo for 'infinite mana', has good survivability options, and has IMO the most efficient setup of mods for a general-purpose protea.

General Concepts of Protea and/or the Build

Efficiency doesn't matter much since this build doesn't have mana problems nor revolve around her R. Strength followed by a tie between Duration and Range (situation-dependent) is important to maximize certain elements of her gameplay. In mid to higher-level activities Duration takes precedence over Range, whereas in lower-level activities, range/coverage can help kill enemies faster. Ideally, you do not want to go much if at all below 100% on duration and Range.

Strength is, without a doubt, her most important stat. Nevermind, my calculations were not perfect and duration is frankly most important here. Maximizing strength is just the best way to use her E, W, and Q by the way they scale. Duration only really benefits her W in terms of damage (and not really any better than AS) and is a bit less important for her other abilities if you already have a lot of Strength. Range is very helpful for getting large Q Coverage and letting her W [Reach] farther in more open maps. THE BELOW MAY NOT [Reflect] THE CURRENT BUILD, ITS HIGHLY REACTIVE TO WHATS NEWLY ADDED INTO THE GAME STRATEGY WISE

Note: I'm only covering things that affect 'Protea' as other mods, arcanes, etc. can be substituted however you like

Aura Options

Great

  • Corrosive Projection (Situational, high armor enemies)
  • Energy Siphon (Situational, if you want to help others with their energy or need more yourself)
  • [Combat Discipline] (Situational, arbitrations etc. situations where pet isn't reliably alive. Make sure no one else is using this mod too or the regen HP one. )
  • [Growing Power] (Not necessarily worse than the above mods, just doesn't seem all that impactful when there's a better option, which there usually is)

Un-Synergistic/Bad

  • [Brief Respite] (This applies to augur mods too! They mess with your Q shield gating and, for the aura and mods, don't give the best stats or aura passive. Maybe usable with cast time reduction builds/dragon key? Could be used in lower-level encounters)

Exilus Mod Options

Great

  • [Primed Sure Footed]? (It is apparently better than [Handspring], and the "bug" with it not working has been fixed. If you haven't played for a bajillion days tho, using handspring is pretty much just as good)
  • Power Drift (Probably her best Exilus mod as Strength is her best stat)
  • Cunning Drift (One way to keep above 100% Ability range or to help maximize her Range)
  • Endurance Drift (Energy max is still pretty helpful. Could just be 'Good')

Good

  • [Repair Dispensary] (So much hype when it was released on my end lol. Sadly, wiki says it does not work in Arbitrations so keep that in mind. Situational otherwise, but likely overshadowed by other means of reviving pets, if you even need to. Ultimately, it just doesn't give enough I think. Djinn with revive works about as well.)

Needs Testing or Preference

  • [Coaction Drift] (Team auras dependent, could be pretty good. If you're going 4 growing power, it just applies another 15% AS like Power Drift I believe)
  • Speed Drift (Helpful for Q spam/augur builds)
  • Handspring?
  • Motus Set?

Other Mods that work with Protea and Brief Mod Explanation

Explanation

  • The mods 'Vital' to almost any [Protea] build are [Equilibrium], [Primed Flow], and [Adaptation](???) . They either work too well with her or are 'eventual' includes that can't be replaced. The current reason as to why i am running umbral intensity over [Transient Fortitude] is that, with the archon shard system, the math works out to umbral being better. T [Fortitude] and 5 duration shards add up to (with prime [Continuity]) 155% str and 202.5% duration. [Umbral Intensify] with 1 strength shard, 3 duration shards, and (flex slot) add up to 159% str, a clean 200% duration (efficiency points :) ) AND a flex slot for the same mod/shard slot investment.

Great

  • Primed Flow (Still needed after the archon shards were released. The mod is just too efficient)
  • [Energy Conversion] (Really a matter of preference and can be better than some of the mods already equipped. I can't be bothered to really track yet another minigame thing, however.)
  • Augur Set (Despite being 'bad' for protea, they are easily obtained, maxed out, and work very well in earlier game encounters
  • Fleeting Expertise (This mod was the mod, along with equilibrium synth, that made protea for me work WONDERFULLY at low/low-mid level. Keep it at 50% and pair with a couple of duration mods and your energy economy becomes INSTANTLY much better. DO NOT use once you obtain better mods and no longer need its energy crutch)
  • Synth set (all of the mods can theoretically work, but synth fiber and deconstruct are great obviously)
  • [Narrow Minded] (Perhaps some lower level of the mod would be good for true maximization of [Blaze] Artillery. This is where I'd consider helminthing a Roar or Breach Surge on her. Scroll to the bottom to read the 'Duration Disclaimer')
  • Natural Talent (The more I look into this mod, the more 'viable' it appears to be. Removing Constitution/transient fortitude or stretch would be a great way to use this mod)
  • [Constitution] (This and the above mod effectively work similarly to running [Umbral Fiber] and [Umbral Vitality]. The difference is the former pairing have .5% increased ability duration and 40% knockdown recovery, vs the 440% Health Increase the Umbral mods give and Tau resist. Ultimately, the latter bonuses are not worth it and are essentially mutually exclusive since the build wouldn't be able to swap between the two due to already needing so much formal. (OUTDATED, we primed sure footed gang now)

Good

  • Intensify
  • Overextended (THE mod to use in lower-level encounters. Steer clear otherwise.)
  • Preparation (Helps get the ball rolling but isn't really needed.)
  • Streamline

Untested

  • Tek set
  • Gladiator might and the other non set version of the mod
  • Boreals Hatred
  • Amar's Hatred
  • Archon Vitality (pairs excellently with high duration/str build. Could do something funny if you take a hit to range/efficiency for full optimized duration/str. With all the new ways to get Str and Dur (esp str) you could DEFINITELY get more dps with this. Fiddle around with replacing umbral intensify or t fortitude with it)

Bad

  • Archon Intensify (DOES NOT WORK afaik)

Arcane Options

Best(?)

  • Molt Augmented (Given how strength works INSANELY well on protea, this augment practically outclasses all others, barring situational things)

Great

  • Arcane Resistance (Her best defense arcane hands down in some situations)
  • Molt [Vigor] (If you like swapping into operator mode, this is also insane paired with the above Molt Augmented. Could free up a mod slot or two. Passive + these arcanes and some mods can very easily make 400% power strength, if needed)
  • Arcane Energize (Another way to keep your team at full energy. Could be overly redundant at times as far as your own energy, but is still a candidate for best arcanes IMO)
  • Molt Efficiency (Free duration? Not as good as augmented by a LONGshot, but could be paired with it in some activities. Hard to find a good time to use it but is theoretically very good, maybe factoring in helminths. Needs testing to see if it breaks when shieldgating involving protea Qs.)
  • Arcane Eruption (Now if you were in a four protea team and one or two of you had this, things would be pretty funny xd)

Good

  • Arcane Barrier (I think the way this interacts with protea, it is just a worse Arcane.)
  • Exodia Hunt (No need to subsume some group-up ability so seems like a cool idea to pair with some slam zaw perhaps)
  • Magus Anomaly (Operator mod, iffy on it but functionally similar to the above)

Ok

  • Arcane Aegis (Basically never lose your shield when it's active. Could be overly redundant with her shield-gating capabilities. I think it is the worst as far as defensive ones go)

Archon Shards

*Disclaimer: The way i weigh these is based on opportunity cost, same as with mods. Some stats are easier to obtain w/ mods, some with archon shards (based on total slots available). For example, if there WAS a 15% range shard, it would be useless because you'd need 3 shards to get the same effect as one mod alone. those same 3 shards could give 45 str, which is much harder to get through mods. Still, corrupted mods complicate things and my assessment may need to be updated to [Reflect] using said mods.

The above build Goes with 3 duration shards, 1 strength shard, and one shard of your choosing (preferably cast speed).

Best

  • Duration, Strength (use duration to get to a time ending in .34, .66, or .00 then fill w/ strength
  • Casting speed (protea loves cast speed)

Worst

  • Pretty much everything else.

Traps

  • Energy max (5 energy max shards don't even equate to a fully maxed primed continuity, and anything you'd substitute in its stead probably isn't worth losing 5 archon shards of dur/str.
  • Bonus effectiveness on orbs (DOESNT work on protea allegedly)

Helminth Abilities

Disclaimer: I don't really use helminth, so these are really just abilities I've seen people use well. Typically, they're put in place of her R

  • Breach Surge (Wisp)
  • Larva (Nidus)
  • Gloom (Sevagoth)
  • Ensnare (Khora)
  • Roar (Rhino)
  • Empower (Helminth)

Parazon Mods/Ideas

Disclaimer: These mods are just suggestions and aren't actually crucial. Think of it like if you have a few of them, you'll get a like 1% benefit to gameplay

Synergizes with the build

  • Blood for Energy
  • Blood for Life (Pretty much strictly better than blood for energy in this build)
  • [Hard Reset] (If you can get mercy kills, this is actually very solid and DOES work in arbitrations. The best of these in higher level stuff)
  • Swift Mercy (I mean not much else to use lol. Works well with the Above)
  • [Power Drain] (Funny mod that can help you get better AS. If I knew how mercys worked, I may be higher on it)

May as well use one

  • Out of Sight
  • Runtime
  • Malicious code (I think similar-ish to out of Sight)
  • Proboscis Cernos (Helps for grouping and possibly condition overload)

Pet and Misc Synergies (WIP)

  • Moa with Blast Shield mod (Big shielding)
  • Vulpaphyla with Panzer Devolution mod (30-second pet downtime, likely the best)
  • Djinn with Reawaken (Pair with Sacrifice, 90-second downtime but a cool combo possibly)

Duration Disclaimer: While more duration IS always better, sacrificing other stats for it does hurt some elements of [Protea]'s gameplay, sometimes counteracting the part of it you are trying to boost: ie sacrificing strength for duration. Additionally, if you're utilizing her W to its peak efficiency, it's important to know how it works and fires. The more shots it hits, the more times its base damage is added to its next shot/hit (linear scaling kinda). It fires 3 times a second once deployed, meaning that there can be 'excess' duration where it and her E are active, but not deploying or doing anything. To 'maximize' the former, ensure that W durations end as close to .12, .23, .34, .45, .56, .67, .78, .89, or .00 as possible. Adding 1 to each (1.12, 1.23, .etc) and multiplying by 9 calculates the number of shots proteas W can fire. Each of those duration milestones represents how much is needed to get one extra shot on Proteas W.
