Known for taking down whole squads with its single massive magazine, few weapons were as feared as the Prime Soma.

The Gatling Shredder | Soma Prime

Hello everyone,

My name is UltimoFive and today we are going over the [Soma Prime], The Gatling [Shredder].

Weapon information

  • [Soma Prime] is the Prime Version of [Soma] and was released alongside [Vasto Prime] and [Nova Prime]. In order to obtain the [Soma Prime] one must open a variety of relics that contain the Blueprint, Barrel, Stock, and Receiver in order to make it at the foundry.

  • Soma Prime requires a mastery rank of 7.

  • [Soma Prime] comes with 2 "V" Polarity Slots, plus a "Dash" Exilus Slot. Because of this, the builds on this weapon will require 3 Forma.

  • [Soma Prime] excels in Close to Medium Range Combat, dealing with High Leveled Enemies of all factions against Small to Medium Crowds.

Comparison to the Original Soma

The Soma Prime had a lot of buffs when compared to the original Soma. These stats would be:

  • Higher Status Chance at 10% Vs. 7%

  • Larger Magazine Capacity at 200 Rounds Vs. 100 Rounds

  • Larger Ammo Reserve at 800 Rounds Vs. 540 Rounds

  • Faster Spool-Up at 4 Rounds Vs. 8 Rounds

Advantages Vs. Disadvantages

Advantages:

  • Very High Critical Chance at 30%

  • Very High Critical Multiplier at 3.0x

  • Very High Fire Rate at 15.0 Rounds per Second

  • Large Magazine Capacity at 200 Rounds

  • Large Ammo Reserve at 800 Rounds

Disadvantages:

  • Very Low Base Damage at 12.0

  • Very Low Status Chance at 10%

  • Slow Reload Speed at 3.0 Seconds

  • Poor Ammo Efficiency

Builds

Corpus | Tested up to Level 150

Toxin | 4 Forma:

Viral/Electricity | 3 Forma:

The Elements for the Soma Prime against the Corpus will be Toxin and Viral/Electricity. Electricity stuns the target for 3 seconds and deals 50% base damage per second for 6 seconds. The Build's Flex Slots are High Voltage or Primed Bane of Corpus for the Viral/Electricity Build and [Bladed Rounds] for the Toxin Build and both Builds works very well against the Corpus Faction. However, Toxin does work much better in the Steel Path, due to just ignoring Shields and just killing off enemies fast, but falls off against enemies with Alloy Armor. Meanwhile, the Viral/Electricity Build works on a more equal ground with dealing with everything very well, but is slower than Toxin in the Steel Path.

Corrupted & Grineer | Tested up to Level 150

The Element for the [Soma Prime] against the Corrupted and Grineer will be Viral. Viral amplifies health damage by 100% for 6 seconds and stacks up to 10 times for a total of 325%.The Build's Flex Slots are [Hunter Munitions] or [Primed Bane Of Corrupted] or Grineer and the Build ends up working very well after just getting a stack or two into [Galvanized Chamber] and [Galvanized Aptitude]. [Hunter Munitions] is a weird Flex Slot though, but it can end up working if one were to put a Riven in its place. Since the weapon has a little bit of a higher Slash Proc Priority then the other 2 Physical Damage Types, it does work out and is good to use. However, keeping [Hunter Munitions] is also a better option and just trading out the Bane mod can work as well!

Infested | Tested up to Level 150

Corrosive/Heat:

Viral/Heat:

The Elements for the Soma Prime against the Infested will be either Viral/Heat, or Corrosive/Heat. Corrosive reduces armor by 26% for 8 seconds and stacks up to 10 times for a total of 80%. Meanwhile, Heat deals 50% base damage per second over 6 seconds while stripping up to 50% armor and causes targets to panic. The Build's Flex Slots are Thermite Rounds or Primed Bane of Infested and both Builds work out very well against all Infested units with Viral/Heat coming out on top. This is mainly due to how Viral amplifies Health Damage, but Corrosive/Heat can still get the job done, especially in Deimos where Viral can't be used.

Recommended Alternative Mods

  • (Primed) Rifle Ammo Mutation - In place of Vigilante Supplies to help even further with the weapon's poor Ammo Efficiency.

  • Split Chamber - In place of Galvanized Chamber if one doesn't have access to the mod through Arbitration or doesn't have it.

  • Serration - In place of [Galvanized Aptitude] if one doesn't have access to the mod through Arbitration or doesn't have it. However, this being said, one will need to Forma a "V" Slot for Serration instead of a "D" for Galvanized Aptitude.

  • Galvanized Scope - In place of [Critical Delay] if one would like stacking Critical Chance upon landing Headshot Kills. However, it can only be traded into the Corpus and Infested Builds, unless one takes out Hunter Munitions for a Riven for example in the Corrupted and Grineer Build.

  • Bane Mods - In place of their Primed Counterparts if one doesn't have them.

  • Point Strike - In place of Critical Delay if one would prefer not to lose Fire Rate and is okay with the slightly lower Critical Chance.

  • (Primed) Cryo Rounds - In place of [Rime Rounds] if one would like more Viral Proc Priority and Higher Viral Damage. This does however affect how the weapon can be Built for all Faction Builds that don't use Cold Damage.

  • (Primed) Shred - In place of The Build's Flex Slot to assist one into Steel Path Endless Missions.

  • Galvanized Scope or Bladed Rounds - In place of the Build's Bane Faction Mod if one doesn't like using Faction Mods.

Synergy with Soma Prime

There are several ways to enhance Critical Stats and Damage for this weapon:

Damage:

  • Rhino's Roar adds bonus damage.

  • [Nova]'s Molecular Prime makes all sources of damage increase by 100% against primed enemies, on top of that they will detonate upon death dealing blast damage.

  • Saryn's Toxic Lash mixed with her Spores abilities.

  • Mirage's Eclipse adds a massive damage bonus during the day or in light.

  • Equinox's Rest & Rage in Day Form makes targets more vulnerable to Damage.

  • Wisp's Haste Reservoir bolsters Fire Rate, in turn increasing DPS.

  • Banshee's Sonar gives a huge damage Multiplier.

  • Chroma's Vex Armor when Health gets damaged increases Weapon Damage.

Critical Stats:

  • Harrow's Covenant can add up to 50% Critical Chance and 200% on headshots.

  • Volt's Electric Shield when shot through adds a 200% Critical Damage Multiplier.

  • [Nidus]' Virulence with his Teeming Virulence Augmentation grants a large increase to Critical Chance upon hitting 4 enemies.

  • Zephyr's Passive increases Critical Chance by 150% while airborne.

  • Adarza Kavat with Cat's Eye can give a 60% Critical Chance boost.

  • Smeeta Kavat with Charm can give a 200% Crit Chance.

Arcane Synergy

  • Arcane Rage - On Headshot, 15% chance for 180% damage to Primary Weapons for 24 seconds.

  • Arcane Acceleration - Upon Critical Hit, 30% chance for 90% Fire Rate to Primary Weapons for 9 seconds.

  • Arcane Primary Charger - On Melee Kill, 30% chance for 300% damage to Primary Weapons for 12 seconds.

  • Arcane Avenger - Upon damaged, 21% chance for 45% Critical Chance for 12 seconds.

  • Arcane Arachne - On Wall Latch, 150% Damage for 30 seconds.

Secondary Arcane:

  • Primary Merciless - On Kill 30% Damage for 4 seconds, which stacks up to 12 times and comes with 30% Reload Speed and 100% Max Ammo.

Riven Synergy

When you get your hands on a Riven for this weapon the Flex Slot to replace will be what was previously discussed before. This may require 1 - 2 more Forma and in order to maximize Damage output with the Soma Prime, one will need to get lucky and get some nice stats. My ideal stats would be:

Ideal Faction Stats - My Ideal Stats would be; Fire Rate, Critical Damage, Critical Chance, and Negative Zoom.
