Exploding Knees - One shot Synovias and Hydrolyst on a budget

Have you ever wanted to be the DPS you were destined to be, oneshotting the synovia and blow up Hydrolyst? Did you stop chasing that dream because you don't want to juggle all kinds of bullshit like Roar and Eclipse and where to stand and how many Void Strike stack you need to one bang the Hydrolyst? Do you have a [Vastilok] that you have no idea what to do with and just want to do SOMETHING with it (well to be fair you can do a lot with a [Vastilok]...)? Well you're in luck! Because we're going to absolutely destroy tridolons with our Exploding Knees [Vastilok] Configuration™ (ᴾᴬᵀᴱᴺᵀ ᴾᴱᴺᴰᴵᴺᴳ).

Now, shit meme aside, what we have here today is a [Vastilok] build that allows you to one shot the eidolon's synovia in a single heavy shot through one [Volt] shield, and oneshot even Hydrolyst with 3 charged [Volt] shield and [Shock Trooper] with 100% ability strength (as in, default ability strength, you can just stack efficiency, duration and defensive mods and this build will STILL allow you to do all that).

Let's talk about the mods we use real quick.

  • [High Noon]: This stance is here simply because I made this build to be as budget as possible. And [Bullet Dance] going for over 50p as of Oct 2021 is anything but. If you have Bullet Dance and prefer it over High Noon, slap it on. I opt not to because I've gotten used to repeating E->W+E.

  • [Blood Rush], [Sacrificial Steel]: We MUST use both these mods to achieve at least 100% crit chance on our heavy attack, as it's so damn valuable considering that [Volt] shield gives us a ton of crit damage. You [Reach] over 100% crit chance with both those mods at r5, so if you can't max them out, don't feel forced to. However, I strongly recommend ranking both of them to at least r8, as the difference between ~110% crit chance and ~160% crit chance is that in the second scenario, half your shots are orange crit, and that's big.

  • [Amalgam Organ Shatter], [Quickening], [True Punishment]: These 3 mods focused on one thing and one thing only: racking up the combo and firing the heavy attack as fast as humanly possible.

  • [Primed Pressure Point], [Shocking Touch]: The least amount of damage we need to do our knee exploding business. If you don't have [Primed Pressure Point], you can definitely slap normal [Pressure Point] on. I use a r8 PPP which gives me 135% Melee Damage, that's only 15% more than normal Pressure Point, and it still allows me to do all the one shotting shenanigan with some room to spare.

  • [Shattering Impact]: [Shattering Impact] and [Vastilok] are a couple made for each other. With 2 shots from your [Vastilok] you will strip every last armor point from the eidolons, allowing you to boost your damage by an amount any other mod in this slot will dream they could deliver.

You will also need a few things other than the Vastilok:

  • [Steel Charge]: You NEED Steel Charge on your Volt. No exception. Due to the nature of our build having very limited +% Melee Damage modifier (Pressure Point/[Primed Pressure Point] being the only option), [Steel Charge]'s 60% amount is the difference between oneshotting the synovia with some room to spare and failing to do that with a sliver of health left on the synovia.

  • [Shock Trooper] [Volt]: You need a [Volt] with Shocktrooper. Not anything super fancy. Literally the only thing you need is Shock Trooper on your Volt and not to go below 100% ability strength. That's it.

  • Primary Dexterity OR Secondary Dexterity: You don't exactly need these. However, they are very useful options to have, as they [Extend] your combo duration allowing you to reposition to have a better shot angle. They're also extremely cheap, you can nab one for less than 20p as of Oct 2021.

Now, here's the juicy part: what you need to actually do in the [Hunt]. It's really simple.

For the synovia, it's rather straight forward. Find a good spot to have a clear shot at the synovia, preferrably under 35m range. Rack up 220 combo counter by shooting the eidolon (you will be stripping its armor while doing that as well, two birds one stone). [Shock Trooper] yourself and lay down a shield. Remember to keep resetting your combo duration when you need to and once the shield goes down, heavy attack at the synovia. Simple? Simple. The only problem is where to find

For the eidolon itself, you do want a bit more [Juice]. While the eidolon is wailing on the ground like a little baby it is, find a spot to easily headshot the eidolon. [Shock Trooper] yourself, lay down 3 shields and electrify them by casting your Shock through them. Get your 220 counter, and shoot the eidolon between the tentacle disc and the mohawk-like part. Even a Hydrolyst will tremble.

You don't need Void Strike. You don't need Eclipse or Roar. In fact I opted for Dispensary from [Protea] to keep my energy bar healthy.

There's also a little trick here that I'd like to mention: when you're heavy attacking, definitely try to go for the second heavy attack as fast as possible. In my testing it seems like the second heavy attack will "snapshot" your 12x combo multiplier allowing you to have two 12x heavy attacks in a row. If your first shot somehow doesn't oneshot the synovia or the eidolon, the second shot probably will.

You probably have a few skepticism regarding the build. Let me explain a few of them that came to my mind:

  • Why a [Vastilok]? Why not just use [Redeemer Prime]? The thing about [Redeemer Prime] is that its shot does 0 impact damage, and thus you cannot utilize [Shattering Impact] with it. Another reason is that while it does have a lot of pellets on its shot allowing it to rack up combo just as fast if not faster than [Vastilok], it doesn't have the humongous damage falloff range that the [Vastilok] has.
Case in point: [Redeemer Prime] deals 100% damage up to 10m and 6% damage at 30m. [Vastilok] deals 100% damage up to 24m and 0% damage at 49m. The majority of the eidolon fights will force you to take shots at the range of around 20-30m. You can already see how fast [Redeemer Prime] falls off. As the damage falloff is linear, at 20m, you are doing 100% damage with [Vastilok] and 53% damage with [Redeemer Prime]. At 30m you're doing 76% damage and a meager 6% with [Redeemer Prime]. The only way you can oneshot the higher up synovias and the eidolon itself with Redeemer Prime is with a much beefier build and/or jumping into the air and doing acrobatic nonsense to have a closer shot at the synovias. In any case, for me it's not as point and click as the Vastilok.

  • Why True Punishment? True Punishment allows you to rack up 220 combo for 12x multiplier in 6-7 shots, in just the right amount of time it takes the eidolon to get up from its kneeling posture and get its shield immediately obliterated by the VS.

  • Do we really need [Shattering Impact]? Well, kind of, somewhat, not entirely. I have tried replacing [Shattering Impact] with [Molten Impact] for Radiation damage and I could still oneshot the synovia just fine. However, I struggled to oneshot the eidolon itself. And by nature of combo build, you only get one chance or it will be a little bit long to [Recover] back to 220 combo counter for a second shot, and let's not entertain the possibility of the third shot being necessary.

  • Why [Shocking Touch]? Why not use [Molten Impact] to combine with the Electricity from Shocktrooper and make Radiation? Aren't the eidolons weak to Radiation? Normally you'd be right, Radiation is the strongest damage type against eidolon armor type, and if we're careful with armor stripping, we can reduce their armor close enough to 0 so that you can have the biggest elemental multiplier combined with almost no DR at all from the eidolon to do as much damage as possible. But we're running [Shattering Impact] instead, so we're completely stripping the armor, no way around it, and the eidolon health type is Robotic which is weak to Electricity. So we're using Electricity instead.

So, with that out of the way, good hunting, gamer. May you be blessed with many Arcane Energize and good loading time.
