Change the faction mod depending on the mission type and the enemies. For normal star chart content, faction mods are not really needed at all. There are a few alternative options that work well listed below.

• Replace smite mod with [Shocking Touch] to form corrosive. If you want viral instead, remove [Primed Fever Strike] and use a rank 1 and rank 0 pair of vicious frost and virulent scourge. This will keep the viral weight below slash to ensure that slash remains the top proc priority.
• Replace either the smite mod or primed fever strike with spring-loaded blade for more range. This comes at the cost of a lower damage output but it mitigates venka's low range.
• Ignore all of the above and do whatever you want.

I have taken this exact build up to level cap enemies with absolutely no issue.
