Altar of Shadows | Shield of Shadows Tank Nekros

INTRODUCTION

This is the standard [Shield Of Shadows] health tanking [Nekros] that has been mostly outdated by shieldgating and helminth abilities, but is still a fun option for solo play. Generally people tend not to use shadows in public as they can be annoying when they look like enemies. If you do use shadows in public, please use a very bright energy colour e.g. pink so allies can easily distinguish your shadows.

BUILD SPECIFICS

Duration and efficiency are not required at all, unless you are running non-prime [Nekros], which means you either need [Streamline] or [Primed Flow] in order to cast Shadows (due to different max energy).

Range is useful for desecrate only and 145% is comfortable in solo play.

Strength of 214% is compulsory for 90% DR at max number of shadows. You can hit this breakpoint with blind rage + power drift (or crimson shards), or umbral intensify + transient foritude + augur secrets/[Power Drift].

[Equilibrium] is great to balance energy and health [Regen] since you can generate so many health and energy orbs.

[Health Conversion] for armor, easy to keep up since [Despoil] drops your health and desecrate generates health orbs consistently, so you are always picking up health orbs.

[Adaptation] to maximise passive tankiness, but this is a flexible slot. I have kept this not maxed to save mod space and keep the build flexible. If you only own max ranked [Adaptation], you could swap [Stretch] out ofr [Augur Reach] to fit everything.

[Stretch] is flexible for Natural Talent, (if no Amber shards), Vitality (if you don't own Arcane Blessing) or Primed Continuity.

Archon Shards

  • TWO Amber Cast Speed shards to make casting 4 bearable
  • 1-2 Crimson Strength shards to help hit breakpoints for [Shield Of Shadows] (optional)

Damage reduction calculations
DR from max armor (1350 [Health Conversion] + 900 [Guardian]) = 88.24%
Total DR with both [Shield Of Shadows] and max armor = 98.8%
Max possible DR with [Adaptation] at max stacks = 99.89%
Max possible EHP with Arcane Blessing at max = 1.36 million health.

HELMINTH OPTIONS

Subsume over 1:
Blood Altar - heal nekros and shadows, keeping them alive constantly
Nourish - boosts shadows, gives viral damage, and boosts energy return
Gloom - for slow and self healing but does NOT heal shadows
Ensnare/Airburst/Larva for grouping
Breach surge for light CC and spark DPS
Roar for general DPS

PLAYSTYLE

  1. Turn on 3
  2. Kill stuff
  3. Activate 4
  4. If NOT subsumed, Use 1 on enemies to make shadows or heal your shadows to full health (only heals when max shadows reached). Using 1 when an enemy is below 25% health wlil insta-kill them and make a shadow. Using 1 when an enemy is not below 25% health will mark them for shadow making once you kill them in other ways, so it's always good to just punch heavy units before you kill them to make a strong shadow.
