Nidus Gameplay Guide

[Nidus] is a supportive brawler who shines when using his Parasitic Link bonuses. His natural survivability is heavily reliant on how many Mutation stacks he's able to generate along with various forms of tertiary damage reduction but it has reasonable scalability with the appropriate tools. The Helminth system has made him one of the most versatile support frames but it requires the entire team to coordinate around each other's positions constantly.

Any frame can use this build guide as it primarily applies to a player spamming Larva to assist other loot generating frames. A more in depth guide to this strategy will be detailed at a later date as it requires a very specific team, mission selection, and positioning to pull off efficiently enough to warrant the time investment.

πŸ“ Build Overview πŸ“

This build supports frames that grant your team additional loot by quickly gathering enemies together with low Duration and Larva. This is primarily done on Arena missions which are also called "Rathuum". It requires a very specific team setup but this build can actually be used on any frame that decides to subsume Larva for themselves.

πŸ”’ Helminth Options πŸ”’

All of [Nidus]' abilities have synergy with each other so deciding which one to replace can be difficult. Virulence is less useful if you're staying far away from the enemies and Ravenous is useless if you're always moving around the tileset. Larva can't be replaced as it's necessary for the build to function.

Voracious Metastasis and Hideous Resistance synergize with the low Duration investment on this build and can give you or your team additional quality of life options.

Fire Blast doesn't need Duration investment and allows your team to use other status effects other than Bleed from Slash to dismember enemies.

Pull can generate additional energy orbs from enemies and doesn't require Strength investment.

Other abilities are decent but provide a lot of redundancy due to the existence of operator mode and the previously mentioned options.

πŸ“Š Ability Stats πŸ“Š

Range is the primary stat in this build to allow Larva to pull enemies from further away. Duration should be tanked to 40% or below to allow the team to quickly dispatch enemies after they've been dropped off into a loot generating ability like [Khora]'s Strangledome. Strength and Efficiency should be tweaked to you and your team's needs.

Helminth Invigorations, Arbitration Buffs, Ally Abilities, Arcanes, and other external stat boosts can save you multiple mod slots but may rely on specific team compositions, loadouts, or sheer luck. Plan around these situations and modify your loadout to hit desired ability stat breakpoints.

⏲️ Duration ⏲️

Duration is weird on [Nidus] because it has negative synergy with Larva but positive synergy with Parasitic Link and Ravenous. This build runs below 40% Duration which can cause some Larva casts to fizzle if a client [Nidus] has a bad connection to the host. Remove Transient Fortitude if you're having this issue as 40% Duration is enough to solve this bug even in high ping environments.

β›½ Efficiency β›½

[Primed Flow] and [Fleeting Expertise] should be enough for [Nidus] to spam Larva throughout the entire mission. If another member is using Dispensary then Equilibrium is a better call over a flex mod.

πŸ“ Range πŸ“

Range has a large amount of investment as this build needs to pull enemies from across the room in as few casts as possible. Depending on where your team is standing you may be able to tweak your Range mods.

πŸ’ͺ Strength πŸ’ͺ

Strength is arguably the most important stat because it double dips with Parasitic Link. This build hits the ability Strength requirement for Gloom to slow enemies by 95%. Cut flex mods to add additional Strength if your subsumed abilities require it. You shouldn't dip below 180% Strength because that's the maximum damage reduction cutoff for Parasitic Link.

↔️ Alternate Playstyles ↔️

Most builds utilize tools that can be swapped out to serve the same purpose albeit in a different manner. The following suggestions are an outline and aren't exhaustive.

πŸ”§ Mods πŸ”§

  • [Corrosive Projection] is only used to boost the damage of any status effects on an enemy other than Bleed from Slash as that is True damage. If you're primarily using Bleed then you should be using a different Aura mod.
  • [Primed Sure Footed] is a powerful survival tool that completely negates many forms of hostile crowd control. It also allows weapons with a large area of effect to be fired with impunity. It's an expensive login reward so replace it if you have other forms of status effect immunity.
  • Transient Fortitude is a flex ability Strength mod that can be replace with any other Strength mod to suit your needs.
  • [Umbral Vitality] is used for survivability but you should be relying on your crowd control ability and your Mutation stacks to pro᠎tect you. Rolling Guard can be slotted in over a flex mod.
  • [Preparation] allows you to start doing the strategy immediately when the match begins without having to wait for additional energy. This is especially important in energy restricted missions like the Arena or Index.

βš™οΈ Arcanes βš™οΈ

Arcane Energize pairs well with [Primed Flow] and allows you to be extremely greedy with your ability casts. It can be replaced if you're confident with your energy economy or you're playing with an ally Warframe that provides energy. Offensive arcanes like Arcane [Fury] or defensive arcanes like Arcane Grace are usually the call on most content.

Arcane Eruption is usually easy to proc and further increases your survivability in various content. It can be inconsistent in content with few energy pickups so replace it if necessary. Tertiary Offensive arcanes like Arcane Avenger or Arcane Strike are usually the call on most content.

πŸ“‹ Final Notes πŸ“‹

Mutation Stacks heavily influence the fundamental decision making of every build. Undying can constantly burn through your stacks in extremely high level content and there aren't too many consistent ways to deal with this other than playing conservatively. Change your build appropriately.

Virulence can generate a second wave that originates from an enemy under the effects of Parasitic Link. Use this to your advantage to double your Mutation stacks or proc [Teeming Virulence] with half the necessary enemies.

Larva says that it can build a full stack but it only has a 50% chance of generating 1/5th of a stack on every kill. This makes it far less useful than advertised at building stacks in comparison to Virulence.

Parasitic Link's Strength bonus is actually multiplicative to your modified ability Strength before Parasitic Link. This means that any Strength investment actually calculates twice with a portion of it being calculated by Parasitic Link. Use this to your advantage to hit various thresholds.

Ravenous maggots don't synergize with other forms of maggot generation but you can explode maggots from other sources to increase your Mutation stacks.
