Nidus: Base Abilities/Energized Munitions/Roar - Teeming Virulence

Nidus Gameplay Guide

[Nidus] is a supportive brawler who shines when using his Parasitic Link bonuses. His natural survivability is heavily reliant on how many Mutation stacks he's able to generate along with various forms of tertiary damage reduction but it has reasonable scalability with the appropriate tools. The Helminth system has made him one of the most versatile support frames but it requires the entire team to coordinate around each other's positions constantly.

📝 Build Overview 📝

This build utilizes the [Teeming Virulence] augment along with other secondary buffs to massively increase the general damage of various Primary weapons. It's more greedy when it comes to various stat spreads but this is necessary to allow the buff to feel impactful in an ever evolving meta.

🔢 Helminth Options 🔢

All of [Nidus]' abilities have synergy with each other so deciding which one to replace can be difficult. Larva has some issues with inconsistently disallowing other abilities to target enemies while they're being pulled into the effect so it's usually the first one to cut. Virulence is less useful if you're staying far away from the enemies and Ravenous is useless if you're always moving around the tileset.

Roar, Eclipse, and other damage buffs shouldn't need large much investment and can deal with higher level enemies.

Energized Munitions synergizes with Primary weapons that have ammo economy issues and can be a significant increase to your damage per minute by cutting reload times out of the equation.

Pillage is usually a subpar ability due to the massive Strength requirements but this build can easily hit the threshold by using Parasitic Link on an ally. Unfortunately the defensive aspects of it can't affect [Nidus] as he doesn't have shields.

Fire Blast, Terrify, and other armor stripping abilities can cripple enemy armor. Some may require you to modify your Strength.

Fire Walker, Spellbind, and other abilities with status immunity can stop status effects that may crop up.

Other abilities are decent but provide a lot of redundancy due to the existence of operator mode and the previously mentioned options.

📊 Ability Stats 📊

Strength is the primary stat on this build due to the synergies with various abilities and Parasitic Link. Duration has a small amount of investment for quality of life purposes. Efficiency isn't necessary as two of your abilities don't use any energy and they take up the slots that are usually the most expensive. Range should be tweaked depending on your playstyle.

Helminth Invigorations, Arbitration Buffs, Ally Abilities, Arcanes, and other external stat boosts can save you multiple mod slots but may rely on specific team compositions, loadouts, or sheer luck. Plan around these situations and modify your loadout to hit desired ability stat breakpoints.

⏲️ Duration ⏲️

Duration is weird on [Nidus] because it has negative synergy with Larva but positive synergy with Parasitic Link and Ravenous. Cut flex mods for additional Duration if your subsumed abilities need it. Remove Primed Continuity if you're only using Larva to support other allies.

⛽ Efficiency ⛽

[Primed Flow] should be enough for [Nidus] to get by even with [Blind Rage]. Virulence refunds energy based on the amount that is spent to use it and the amount of enemies that it hits. You may need to add in Fleeting Expertise if you're constantly using Larva.

📏 Range 📏

Range is useful on this build but it has a slightly negative synergy with Virulence so there isn't too much investment. Virulence takes too long to recast if it passes though an enemy and doesn't terminate due to high Range investment.

💪 Strength 💪

Strength is arguably the most important stat because it double dips with Parasitic Link. Cut flex mods to add additional Strength if your subsumed abilities require it. You shouldn't dip below 180% Strength because that's the maximum damage reduction cutoff for Parasitic Link.

↔️ Alternate Playstyles ↔️

Most builds utilize tools that can be swapped out to serve the same purpose albeit in a different manner. The following suggestions are an outline and aren't exhaustive.

🔧 Mods 🔧

  • [Growing Power] is easy to proc and synergizes with the build. Replace it if the Strength is unnecessary or if you're doing missions with multiple status immune enemies.
  • [Primed Sure Footed] is a powerful survival tool that completely negates many forms of hostile crowd control. It also allows weapons with a large area of effect to be fired with impunity. It's an expensive login reward so replace it if you have other forms of status effect immunity.
  • Transient Fortitude and Blind Rage are flex ability Strength mods that can be replace with any other Strength mod to suit your needs.
  • Primed Continuity and Constitution can be replaced if you're heavily relying on Larva but some abilities can become far less useful.
  • [Rolling Guard] is the secondary survivability option on this build and is necessary due to the large amount of mod slots spent on greedy damage investment.
  • [Teeming Virulence] is necessary for the build to function. Without it this just becomes a worse version of the Buff Support variant of this build.

⚙️ Arcanes ⚙️

Arcane Energize pairs well with [Primed Flow] and allows you to be extremely greedy with your ability casts. It can be replaced if you're confident with your energy economy or you're playing with an ally Warframe that provides energy. Offensive arcanes like Arcane [Rage] or defensive arcanes like Arcane Grace are usually the call on most content.

Arcane Avenger is usually easy to proc and further increases the critical chance of any weapon. It has a small amount of diminishing returns and can be unreliable in level cap content so replace it if you're not confident in keeping the proc up. Tertiary Offensive arcanes like Arcane Acceleration or Arcane Momentum are usually the call on most content.

📋 Final Notes 📋

Mutation Stacks heavily influence the fundamental decision making of every build. Undying can constantly burn through your stacks in extremely high level content and there aren't too many consistent ways to deal with this other than playing conservatively. Change your build appropriately.

Virulence can generate a second wave that originates from an enemy under the effects of Parasitic Link. Use this to your advantage to double your Mutation stacks or proc [Teeming Virulence] with half the necessary enemies.

Larva says that it can build a full stack but it only has a 50% chance of generating 1/5th of a stack on every kill. This makes it far less useful than advertised at building stacks in comparison to Virulence.

Parasitic Link's Strength bonus is actually multiplicative to your modified ability Strength before Parasitic Link. This means that any Strength investment actually calculates twice with a portion of it being calculated by Parasitic Link. Use this to your advantage to hit various thresholds.

Ravenous maggots don't synergize with other forms of maggot generation but you can explode maggots from other sources to increase your Mutation stacks.
