137.5K Sustained DPS Corrosive/Viral + Fire 5 Forma Shadow Claws

Hi everybody,

Are you ready to claw your way to the top? This guide shows you how to get one of the maximum sustained DPS builds out of [Shadow Claws] that has both combination elemental damage (corrosive or viral) and single elemental damage (fire) types. The conditional max DPS of this build is a whopping 137.5K, and it only requires 5 forma (although one of those forma is an umbra forma).

The one caveat of this build is that it relies on the mod [Proton Snap]'s conditional effect, which requires you to latch onto walls for 2 seconds every 20 seconds, as it adds a reasonable amount of extra elemental damage (+100% toxic), but also adds +50% non-multiplicative status chance, which is how you max out the bonus from [Condition Overload]. Other than that, the only other conditional bonus is from the mod Berserker, which increases attack speed by 15% per stack, up to 75%, and gains a stack for 24 seconds every time you critical strike an enemy. Seeing as you auto critical strike enemies, it only requires hitting five enemies to max out the bonus it provides, and in that regard is hardly conditional at all, as you will want to be attacking enemies (probably at least five). To latch onto walls, jump and press your aim hotkey and hold that hotkey for as long as you want to latch onto the wall for. You will automatically unlatch after a short period of time, and wall latch time can be increased by various mods, or by being [Loki], who has something like 45 seconds of wall latch time inherently. Regardless, you will only need to latch for 2 seconds, so latch until you see that [Proton Snap] buff in the top right hand corner of your screen counting down from 20 seconds and then start attacking.

If you don't mind only having a combination elemental damage type and no single element damage type, you can increase the damage of this build to 156K by using one additional forma to allow you to add a Primed anti-Faction mod, or Primed Fury, both of which increase damage to 156K. The differences between using an anti-Faction mod and Primed Fury are: Primed Fury increases attack speed greatly but decreases average hit damage a fair bit, whereas a Primed anti-Faction mod increases attack damage, does not change attack speed and requires having the appropriate anti-Faction mod equipped for the mission you are playing.

There is a way to get even more conditional DPS out of [Shadow Claws], but you will be stuck with only toxic damage as elemental damage. For example if you use [Gladiator Might] instead of [Volcanic Edge] and use [Primed Fury] instead of Shocking Touch (requires an additional forma, and to have made the polarity of the slot for Shocking Touch not Naramon (-- polarity) but Madurai (V polarity) beforehand, or you will end up needing to use 7 forma to correct for this later), then you can get a total conditional DPS of 169.3K.

Or, if you feel like using Primed Fury and a Primed anti-Faction mod instead of [Shocking Touch] and [Volcanic Edge] (this requires 7 forma total or 8 if you need to correct for it later), then you can achieve the maximum conditional sustained DPS possible using [Shadow Claws], which is 194K. This is pretty sweet, but having only toxic elemental damage is pretty lame and so is the requirement of having all of the melee Primed anti-Faction mods at max rank.

Overall, I'd just build for the 5 forma build shown above, for the ease of ranking [Shadow Claws] the least amount of times, and the benefits of having corrosive or viral and heat damage, which might even actually be way more deadly than pure +DPS with a Toxic elemental flourish, as Corrosive damage status strips armour and makes your attacks deal more damage with each Corrosive status applied (this applies mostly to Grineer enemies, but probably also to Infested enemies as well), and Viral damage is similar in that each Viral status applied halves the health of the enemy it is applied to (this may have very little effect against certain Corpus enemies that have mostly shields instead of health), meaning that each attack that applies Viral damage status will bring your target closer to death. Also Fire damage status, as well as Viral damage status, are the only two types of Elemental status effects that can apply multiple status effect stacks of the same status effect type to a given enemy, meaning that you are most capable of maxing out the bonus from [Condition Overload] if you use Viral and Fire damage types together. For this reason I recommend using the build exactly as shown above, or with the singular change of exchanging Shocking Touch for North Wind (requires building in the Vazarin polarity (D polarity) instead of Naramon polarity (-- polarity) in the slot for [Shocking Touch] before you polarize that slot, i.e. committing to Viral instead of Corrosive, or you will end up having to use a 6th forma to correct for this later).

Thanks for reading, I hope this guide is useful.

Peace,
