El Pinatero - The Loot Pinata Maker (260% loot)

Turn enemies into loot piñatas, smash them open, then look through the shattered pieces for even more loot! As an added bonus, unlike many [Nekros] builds, this build does not depend on slash based weapons to make extra corpses to Desecrate, so bring whatever weapon you like to smash those pinatas!

Use Petrify to turn enemies into stationary pinatas. [Ore Gaze] means that the pinatas drop more loot when you smash them to pieces. Desecrate means that you get to turn those shattered pieces into even more loot. As an added bonus, petrified enemies have a custom death animation that creates an extra corpse, giving even more loot from Desecrate.

Main Goal

Maximize loot from Desecrate and [Ore Gaze] while maintaining reasonable survivability good enough for anything up to (and depending on skill level, including) Steel Path.

The Maths

1 normal enemy = 100% base loot
1 petrified enemy = +53.5% loot from 214% strength [Ore Gaze]
2 corpses from shattered enemy = Two chances at +54% more loot from Desecrate
100% + 53.5% + 2*54% = 261.5% loot

Gameplay Experience

  • This build is fantastic for things like Isolation Vault runs with Petrify to crowd control hordes of infested and Desecrate to get double loot from Necramechs.
  • The crowd control provided by Petrify goes a long way toward increasing survivability. Use it often and rely on Equilibrium to keep Nekros well stocked with energy.
  • This build is not good for most boss fights. It can be very squishy without a supply of corpses to maintain Health Conversion stacks and Petrify does not work on bosses.
  • When starting a mission or exiting archwing in open-world, you will be vulnerable until Health Conversion stacks rebuild.
  • Even without [Shield Of Shadows], your minions are good for distracting enemies from yourself, escort targets and defense objectives. They are ineffective at defending interception consoles. Minions will also tend to slow your kill rate on survival missions as your minions will gradually wander away from you towards the enemy. If your duration is 100% or above, you shouldn't have a problem keeping them up most of the time. This is most useful for open-world missions.

Key Mechanical Points

  • Ability strength increases [Ore Gaze] loot chance. This build has +53.5% loot chance on petrified enemies. There are ways to get higher strength, but they come with significant disadvantages, usually being forma incompatible with other useful Nekros builds.
  • Petrify can replace either ability 1 (Soul Punch) or 2 (Terrify). To remain compatible with more survival oriented builds that use Shield of Shadows, I do not recommend replacing Shadows of the Dead.
  • Duration is not very important, but should not be dumped completely if you are expecting to use your undead army (Shadows of the Dead). For low and medium difficulties, your minions should be unnecessary.
  • [Adaptation] is probably interchangeable with [Health Conversion]. I prefer [Health Conversion] because the stacks don't decay due to time, only damage taken, so you aren't as vulnerable at the start of defense waves and other times between taking hits. [Health Conversion] also synergizes with companion armor sharing mods.

Variations

You may note that this build has at least 1 more forma used than required. That is to enable multiple builds such as the more standard Nekros looter and tank builds.

Vitality, Equilibrium , Despoil and Ore Gaze are 100% non-negotiable for this build.

[Fleeting Expertise] vs [Streamline]

[Fleeting Expertise] can be swapped out for [Streamline]. [Streamline] makes Shadows of the Dead usable by removing the large duration penalty. I find that the crowd control from Petrify is more than enough to keep me alive in most missions so I prefer making it easier to cast it multiple times in a row. Starting at full energy with [Streamline] is exactly enough energy for 2 casts. Starting at full energy with [Fleeting Expertise], picking up a single health orb will allow 3 Petrify casts.

For easiest difficulties

Out: [Health Conversion]
In: [Augur Reach]

You don't need the armor, so might as well trade it in for a quality of life improvement: lazier desecrating and a more forgiving Petrify range.

For hardest difficulties

Out: [Fleeting Expertise], possibly [Stretch]
In: [Shield Of Shadows], possibly [Primed Continuity] or [Streamline]

SoS and 214% strength give us the maximum possible 90% damage sharing with Shadows of the Dead minions. Since we are all about maximizing loot with Desecrate and Petrify we can't afford to equip both [Stretch] and [Primed Continuity] like many other [Nekros] tank builds. Those builds are forma compatible, however, just swap Ore Gaze out for SoS.

Arcane Options

Support
Arcane Pulse - You will be picking up lots of health orbs, granting healing to allies. I'm not sure if this will heal your shadows, but I doubt it. If it does, it will extend the duration of your minions, making things like Primed Continuity less attractive.
Arcane Energize - You will be generating and picking up a ton of energy orbs too. Give even more energy to your allies

Tank
Arcane Grace - More health regeneration is good
Arcane Guardian - More armor is good too

Damage
[Nekros] is not a great damage dealing frame and you should probably be looking elsewhere.

Companion Options

Synth Fiber and Fetch/[Vacuum] mods are strongly recommended for any companion.

[Dethcube Prime] with [Energy Generator] and [Synth Deconstruct] combined with an attack speed focused [Sweeper Prime] or [Helstrum] to tag enemies. This will not work well in places like the Isolation Vault caves as [Dethcube] simply can't survive reliably there. Why use this companion? Because sometimes you just want to make more orbs.

[Panzer Vulpaphyla] with [Bite], [Hunter Recovery] and [Synth Deconstruct]. Heals you and still has an AoE capable of tagging multiple enemies for healing orbs from [Synth Deconstruct]. Best overall option for tougher content.
My pet Gravedigger

[Smeeta Kavat] with [Charm], [Tek Enhance] and maximum survivability. More loot. Default choice.
