Baruuk: Rest & Rage/Ensnare - Stealth Scanning

Baruuk Gameplay Guide

[Baruuk] utilizes several forms of damage reduction and mild crowd control to survive attacks while eroding his Restraint passive. This passive meter can either be used as fuel for Serene Storm or another source of damage reduction.

📝 Build Overview 📝

Codex scanning can be difficult on some enemies as they have an extremely low chance to spawn in specific missions. Lull is one of the few intended ways to reset their alert status so that you can get a doubled stealth scan and halve your time farming these enemies.

🔢 Helminth Options 🔢

Desolate Hands is usually a great damage reduction ability but it's replaced here as the Strength is too low to utilize the damage reduction and the charges will be spent almost instantly due to the high Range. Elude provides better Restraint erosion and Lull is paramount to the build. Serene Storm is fairly weak and is a secondary option to replace if you have higher Strength.

Rest from Rest & [Rage] can be used to put enemies back to sleep that may have woken up from Lull before you could scan them. This shouldn't come up in too many scenarios unless you're mass scanning enemies.

Ensnare can pull enemies together if you're stealth scanning entire groups. It isn't necessary if you're only trying to scan a single enemy.

Other quality of life abilities can be run at your discretion. Be careful with running damaging abilities as they can awaken enemies and re-alert them before you can get the doubled stealth scan.

📊 Ability Stats 📊

Range is the most important stat with some small investments into Range and Efficiency. Strength has no purpose on a crowd control build as we kill enemies with meta weapons rather than abilities.

Helminth Invigorations, Arbitration Buffs, Ally Abilities, Arcanes, and other external stat boosts can save you multiple mod slots but may rely on specific team compositions, loadouts, or sheer luck. Plan around these situations and modify your loadout to hit desired ability stat breakpoints.

⏲️ Duration ⏲️

Duration is increased a bit to allow the crowd control abilities to hold enemies for longer than the baseline. These abilities will still need upkeep so massive Duration investment isn't advised as you'll be recasting them halfway through their duration to catch new enemies. Primed Continuity should be fine on its own.

⛽ Efficiency ⛽

Efficiency is increased a bit to help your energy economy. Fleeting Expertise hurts your Duration while can be counterintuitive on crowd control builds.

📏 Range 📏

Range is nearly maxed to hit more enemies with all of your abilities. It also has the side benefit of making Elude have a full 360 degree radius of protection from non area of effect attacks. Augur Reach can be added over a flex mod on very large tilesets.

💪 Strength 💪

Strength doesn't matter on this build as it has no positive benefit on the main abilities. It can be increased by replacing flex mods but that would only benefit the damage reduction from Desolate Hands and Serene Storm.

↔️ Alternate Playstyles ↔️

Most builds utilize tools that can be swapped out to serve the same purpose albeit in a different manner. The following suggestions are an outline and aren't exhaustive.

🔧 Mods 🔧

  • [Enemy Radar] helps you and your team to find enemies. Crowd Control builds can have issues with holding enemies in awkward areas which can artificially elongate missions that require you to eliminate enemies. It can be replaced if there are other forms of enemy detection on your team.
  • [Ice Spring] is a decent movement boost and fits into the polarity plan. It can be replaced at your discretion as it isn't important to the build.
  • [Streamline] can be considered a flex mod if you're confident in your energy economy. Duration mods can be used instead for a more passive playstyle.
  • [Rolling Guard] is our only survival tool outside of our crowd control abilities. It's necessary for high level missions and shouldn't be replaced unless you're confident in using your operator mode to avoid damage.
  • [Endless Lullaby] allows you to chain Finisher attacks to keep Lull up for far longer and to move it across the map without having to recast it. It also passively increases the duration of Lull. It can be replaced for whatever mod fits into the polarity plan.

⚙️ Arcanes ⚙️

Arcane Energize synergizes with high Efficiency and [Primed Flow] which allows you to be greedy with your ability casts. It can be replaced if you're confident with your energy economy. Offensive arcanes like Arcane Avenger or Arcane Strike are usually the call.

Arcane Precision allows you to kill more enemies with a single hit while they're under the effects of Lull. This is especially important when using the [Ballistica Prime] to get additional scans from slain enemy ghosts. It can be replaced on builds that only care about getting the stealth scans. Tertiary defensive arcanes like Arcane Guardian or Arcane Aegis are usually the call.

📋 Final Notes 📋

Stealth codex scanning can be inconsistent depending on the exact enemy that you're trying to find. Not all enemies can be put to sleep with Lull. [Ballistica Prime] doesn't create ghosts from all enemies and the [Ghost] is sometimes considered a default version of the enemy rather than a rare version of it.

Restraint erosion is dependent on several different factors that may not be optimal on all missions. Serene Storm is strong but you should be paying attention to your average Restraint erosion before you activate the ability. If you're having issues it's better to not activate the ability and to keep the damage reduction from the passive rather than burn it and struggle to erode your Restraint again.
