Oberon Kenobi: A Power Slinging Jack-of-All-Trades [Revised]

EDIT: This build has been revised as of the Veilbreaker update. You can find the original build here.

Disclaimer: This build was compiled using my own observations and a lot of research, but leans greatly on the amazing analysis done here by /scurvybill. I highly encourage you to give it a read as it is much more in-depth than what I posit here.

Intro:

For the sake of argument, I consider "Jack-of-All-Trades" to mean "can use this build virtually anywhere."

Enjoy having to never change your loadout with augmented Oberon! This build's goal is to provide an accessible, all-rounder setup that takes advantage of [Oberon]'s flexibility. Balanced stats with an emphasis on power strength are what allow this build to work so universally.

[Oberon] is a spectacular frame, but doesn't always look spectacular in comparison to other frames. Can he deal as much damage as [Chroma]? No. Can he heal as easily as [Trinity]? Not really. Can he buff as well as [Wisp]? Definitely not. Is he as much of a tank as [Inaros]? Nope. These sorts of questions make people mistakenly pass him over when looking for a good frame to bring.

But, can he do all of the above things pretty damn well, at any time, using a single tool set? YES. This versatility is what makes [Oberon] a force to be reckoned with. You need to utilize everything at his disposal to truly see him shine, and BOY can he shine after laying all his cards on the figurative battle field table. His only real problem is energy consumption due to Renewal being channeled per target.

Build Philosophy:

The build I present to you seeks to solve Mr. Goat's energy needs while prioritizing a fun, all-rounder type of playstyle. Flexibility is what we're after since this naturally plays to [Oberon]'s strengths, and as a result we avoid corrupted mods in order to stay away from stat penalties. Power strength and duration provide the biggest impact so they are what is focused on.

Mod Priority & Reasoning:

#1. Hunter Adrenaline - Solves your energy problem practically by itself. As long as you keep Renewal up (which you should), this is like free energy.

#2. (Umbral) Vitality - More health is always good, especially with Hunter Adrenaline in play. We don't focus on shields or armor to get the most use out of Hunter Adrenaline.

#3. (Archon) Intensify - The primary work horse mod for more power strength. Oberon's playstyle also lets us get the power strength bonus of Archon Intensify with virtually no down-time, so it actually ends up being a slight boost compared to slotting Umbral Intensify.

#4. (Primed) Continuity - The work horse mod for duration. Duration not only directly buffs Hallowed Ground, but acts like an efficiency buff for Renewal.

#5. (Primed) Flow - Further mitigates your energy management problem. Not required but definitely makes a load of difference in minute-to-minute gameplay.

#6. Augur Secrets - The secondary work horse mod for more power strength. The secondary effect is a cherry-on-top since you'll be using abilities a lot.

#7. Smite Infusion - [Smite Infusion] is a fantastic damage buff against most boss enemies, and also just in general to add some oomph and indirect crowd control potential to your weapons.

#8. Phoenix Renewal / Augur Reach / Streamline - This is really a flex slot that comes down to whatever you need. [Phoenix Renewal] is a game changer in Arbitrations, and a great QoL in general. [Augur Reach] is helpful for getting Hallowed Ground over a wider area. Streamline is useful if you like spamming Reckoning.

#Aura = Growing Power - Matches his default polarity and directly buffs your power strength even more. Though this is largely up to preference. I'd recommend choosing what you're used to using.

#Exilus = Power Drift - MOAR DAMAGE/HEALS! The knockdown resistance is pretty handy too.

#Arcanes = Molt Augmented & Energize - Energize is a great pick on Oberon to further ensure your energy needs are met. Molt Augmented has become a pretty go-to selection as well to add a little extra scaling for Renewal or Smite with [Smite Infusion]. I see most people recommend [Guardian] or Grace as solid picks, but I've also found that Avenger syncs well with using [Hunter Adrenaline]. This combined with the build's high power strength and [Smite Infusion] means that [Oberon] can hold his own in a group as far as damage is concerned.

Play Style:

You'll normally go about using your abilities in the following rotation:

  1. Get some energy and trigger the [Growing Power] aura,
  2. Cast Hallowed Ground and stand on it with your team mates,
  3. Hold cast Smite for Smite Infusion,
  4. Cast Renewal,
  5. Repeat steps 1-3 indefinitely as needed while making sure you always have Renewal up.

Ultimately your goal is to never have Renewal go down. If you are not in danger of that then you'll liberally use Hallowed Ground for easy CC and status immunity while refreshing [Smite Infusion] every now and then. With this build you'll get a ton of healing per second with 500+ armor if you cast Renewal while [Growing Power] is triggered.

Your fourth ability, Reckoning, has been improved substantially after the armor strip standardization that happened with Angels of Zariman. It interacts with Hallowed Ground to strip the armor of enemies standing on Hallowed Ground, and now this properly takes modifiers into account. So while needing 2 abilities and 150 energy to armor strip sounds expensive, you now can reliably 100% armor strip on large groups of enemies at the same time. I find that it's also useful as an "oh sh*t" button when you are surrounded.

Notes:

[Oberon]'s passive ability does innately push him into preferring beasts over sentinels, which is why I run him with this foxy friend for even more survivability. But don't feel pigeon-holed into using pets. [Dethcube] makes a great option with his augment from Simaris that generates energy orbs from assisted kills.

Your team dynamic will also heavily determine how you use this build. Specifically on the 8th flex slot I included for mods, but also in general. Make sure you know what your team needs so you prioritize which ability to use the most. Always keep Renewal up when you can. Abuse Hallowed Ground if you need CC. Use Smite liberally on bosses. Help strip armor with Reckoning. Practically anything your team needs you can do, and this setup will help you do that thing as best as you can without taking away from your versatility.
