Bonewidow

** General Survival / Melee Build (6 Forma) - 25k EHP - UPDATED - INCLUDES GUIDE

by last updated 2 years ago

60

This fearsome Necramech, fashioned in honor of the Entrati matriarch, is a robust front-line fighter. Favoring armor and health over shield strength, Bonewidow can grab and hurl enemies, deploy a heavy shield for personal defense, and cleave through opposing ranks with a massive warblade.

** General Survival / Melee Build (6 Forma) - 25k EHP - UPDATED - INCLUDES GUIDE

I hear that the Bonewidow still has a lot of problems (as of 12-2020), but trying this build that's similar to my VoidRig's (Voidrig build is here: https://overframe.gg/build/113615 ) with more emphasis on melee mods than engine mods.

Not sure yet how much I'll be using the exalted weapon, but the Rebuke Mod can be replaced with Continuity if reducing the drain by 0.4/sec will come in handy.

Notes After Completing Build:

Bone Widow's pretty great. I love the playstyle. I hardly ever use the shield, opting instead to always be regenerating with Meathook (fantastic!). I rarely think to use the third ability, but can see myself learning to use it more. This mech is so tanky with Meathook. It's so nice being able to self-repair. I find myself using the 1 constantly, and using the [Exalted Blade] here and there; either to kill an Orphix, clear a horde that's getting really thick, or just to change things up.

My Exalted Ironbride Build HERE: https://overframe.gg/build/115213

Options:

  • The upper right slot is an 'option' slot. Recently, I'd tried replacing [Streamline] with Hydraulics, because having that huge jump boost makes a huge difference dealing with Orphixes etc., but not having [Streamline] was causing energy tightness. Where Hydraulics is now, I previously had 'Rebuke', which was interesting, but I honestly think Rebuke was keeping me from building as much [Rage] energy as I needed. It might be better to not have Rebuke (even though it's a cool defensive thing), and just make sure you're always regenerating with Meathook.
  • [Necramech Repair] may be unneeded. [Regen] with Meathook is so strong that you can always heal yourself as long as you're paying attention. I'm using Repair as an extra backup contingency, just in case I screw up bad somehow (i.e. while hard-core focusing on an Orphix eye and ignoring everything swarming me from all directions). A good option to replace Repair would be Thrusters. That'll give you more '[Flow]' for your engine, which will help when traveling or hovering.

I don't think Bone Widow is weak. Not anymore. With the new mods and this build, it's really strong; at least, up against enemy levels similar to the end of the 3rd Tier Orphix Venom mission (level 110ish?). No idea what will happen on Steel Path.

Bone Widow vs VoidRig

When you're looking at Bone Widow vs VoidRig, think of it like this:

  • Bone Widow is a lot of fun. Melee is fun. The Meathook is cool, and it's really fun trying to single out a Nullifier ([Revenge]!), a Nox, or a larger sentient to skewer. It's also fun with [Voidrig] to quickly pull out your [Arquebex] and blow everything away, seeing lots of colorful numbers, over 2 million even. So, what's more fun? Melee or gun stuff?
  • Bone Widow is more simple of a playstyle. He's easier to survive with, doesn't require so much attention to keeping his powers up. VoidRig will totally melt without having Storm Shroud active, and that requires more special attention to maintain.
  • Even though Bone Widow can really tear shit up with his [Exalted Blade] and a good [Ironbride] build, the damage you deal is nowhere near [Voidrig] with a good Arquebex build. VoidRig's damage potential is stellar. My Arquebex build has a burst DPS of freaking 5 million.
  • So, Tenno, if you can only choose one, do you want the gun or the blade? Squishy or tanky? Consistent or STUPID-HIGH damage? Inaros or Mesa?

LATER NOTES (2021-Nov)

I've been using this build for all Necramech stuff, and it's been great. In fact, I hardly ever pull out the [Exalted Blade], but it's there if I need it. With [Bonewidow], you'll be relying on your archgun more than if you were using Voidrig, but with a good archgun build, it's totally fine.

  • In an Orphix Venom situation, bring a Fluctus so you can shoot the shielding things through walls and ceilings/floors. Then you'll attack the Orphix with your sword. With Thrusters and Hydraulics, you can just hover HIGH up in the air to do that lol.
  • For everything else, bring a heavy hitting archgun with quick reloading. I use my [Kuva Ayanga] almost all the time. The new [Kuva Grattler] is nice for a little more range, but the Ayanga just slays everything with explosives and reloads very quickly. Here's my Ayanga build: https://overframe.gg/build/116589

Why [Redirection]??? People poopoo on [Redirection] on [Bonewidow] because shields are meh and you're preventing your Rage energy generation from kicking in as much. Redirection works fine for me. The larger shield lets me take long-range and stray hits without damage, and when I'm in the shit, shields will drop, I'll be healing with Meaethook, and getting [Rage] [Regen] then. There also aren't many good alternatives, considering all that's in the rest of the build, but as of updating this build, I'm going to try some things:
Possible alternatives to Redirection:

  • [Streamline]. WIll let you keep your sword out longer. Since I have flow and rage, running out of juice has never been an issue, but this is a valid thing.
  • Drift. I guess if you want to be able to hover for even ridiculously longer lol.
  • Refuel. I can slide for a loooong way with the build as is, but this will make it better...?
  • Deflection. This might not be a bad idea. Will increase shield recharge, thus make shield gating better (is that a thing with mechs?). I'll experiment with this. Doesn't need another forma.
  • Rebuke. Interesting. Normal sized shield, but would zap-proc everyone near you when shield breaks. Actually useful. I'll be experimenting with this one for a while. Just swap the Varazin polarity behind [Redirection] to move behind Thrusters, and you'll have room for Rebuke without forma problems.
If anything, I'd replace [Redirection] with Rebuke, or maybe Deflection.
