Splatter enemies with a short-range stream of corrosive bile and then toss the ammo bladder as a grenade when reloading. The emptier the pistol’s ammo bladder, the more potent its damage. A fully empty bladder packs the biggest punch.

The Face Melter | Catabolyst

Hello everyone,

My name is UltimoFive and today we are going over the [Catabolyst], The Face Melter.

Weapon Information

  • The Catabolyst is an infested Sidearm that fires a short-ranged Corrosive Beam and is obtained by researching it's blueprint in the Bio Lab at the Dojo and requires these materials to make it:

  • The Catabolyst requires a mastery rank of 11.

  • The [Catabolyst] comes with one "V" Polarity Slot and a "V" Exilus Polarity Slot. Because of this the builds for this weapon require 4 forma.

  • The [Catabolyst] has a unique feature called "Reload Grenade". While reloading the weapon it throws out a grenade where you aim and explodes in a 5 meter radius on impact.

  • The [Catabolyst] excels in Close to Medium Range disintegration against all leveled enemies and can deal with small to large crowds with ease.

Advantages vs. Disadvantages

Advantages:

  • Very High Critical Multiplier at 2.9x

  • Extremely High Status Chance at 43%

  • High Fire Rate at 12.00

  • Innate 0.9 meter Punch-Through

Disadvantages For Primary Beam:

  • Low Critical Chance at 11%

  • Has Linear Damage Falloff from 100% to 80% from 9m to 19m

  • Limited Range of 19 meters

Disadvantages For Reload Grenade:

  • Explosions have Self-Stagger

  • Explosion has Linear Damage Falloff from 100% to 50% from point of impact

Builds

Corpus: Up to Level 140 Eximus Tested

The Elements for the Catabolyst against the Corpus will be Magnetic/Toxin. Magnetic amplifies shield damage by 100% and nullifies [Regen] of shields for 6 seconds which stacks up to 10 times for a total of 325%, meanwhile Toxin deals 50% base damage per second over 6 seconds. This weapon is, in my opinion, more powerful than the [Kuva Nukor] against High Leveled enemies. This weapon just absolutely dominates against the Corpus and can easily [Shred] everything, including Bursa, and that says a lot.

Corrupted & Grineer: Up to Level 140 Eximus Tested

The Element for the Catabolyst against the Corrupted and Grineer will be Viral/Heat. Viral amplifies health damage by 100% for 6 seconds and stacks up to 10 times for a total of 325%, meanwhile heat deals 50% base damage per second over 6 seconds while stripping up to 50% armor and causes targets to panic. I really don't have much to say here, again this weapon just decimates the field and can easily deal with any enemy on the Corrupted and Grineer side.

Infested: Up to Level 140 Eximus Tested

The Elements for the [Catabolyst] against the Infested will be Gas. Gas deals 50% base damage per second for 6 seconds in a 3 meter radius and stacks up to 10 times to a total of 6 meters. So I would say just going Corrosive would be beneficial, but I saw the potential of Gas due to this weapons reload mechanic. It is just so fun to throw the grenade and nuke the area of all infested with a huge Gas field.

Alternative Mods

Now before I get into the modifications I want to mention that the reason why there is no Exilus Mod in my builds is that in order to put one in that benefits the weapon it requires incorporating 1-2 more Forma and I honestly think it isn't worth it. The ammo economy is great and the Linear Damage Falloff isn't bad. If you really want an Exilus mod in that Slot then I suggest using [Lethal Momentum] and only using 5 forma instead of 6 for a ammo mutation mod that isn't really necessary on this weapon.

Recommended Good Mods:

  • Pistol Gambit - If you don't have Primed Pistol Gambit.

  • Target Cracker - If you don't have Primed Target Cracker.

  • Heated Charge - If you don't have Primed Heated Charge.

Non-Recommended Mods:

  • Magnum Force - Even though the accuracy loss is unaffected with this weapon, it still isn't a good mod to put on this weapon. The mod's damage just doesn't do anything other than decrease the DPS and in my opinion it just isn't worth it.

Ways to increase Critical Chance and Damage

There are several ways to enhance Critical Chance and Damage for this weapon:

Damage:

  • Rhino's Roar adds bonus damage.

  • [Nova]'s Molecular Prime makes all sources of damage increase by 100% against primed enemies, on top of that they will detonate upon death dealing blast damage.

  • Mirage's Eclipse mixed with her Hall of Mirrors adds a massive damage bonus during the day or in light.

  • Saryn's Toxic Lash mixed with her Spores abilities.

Critical Chance:

  • Harrow's Covenant can add up to 50% Critical Chance and 200% on headshots.

  • Adarza Kavat with Cat's Eye can give a 60% Critical Chance boost.

  • Smeeta Kavat with Charm can give a 200% Crit Chance.

Arcane Synergy

  • Arcane Avenger - Upon getting hit, 21% chance for 45% Critical Chance for 12 seconds.

  • Arcane Awakening - On reload, 60% chance for 150% damage to pistols for 24 seconds.

  • Arcane Precision - On Headshot, 100% chance for 300% damage to pistols for 18 seconds.
